Layla
"HEY you." A voice called out as a hand took it's home and settled on my lower back.
My initial thought was to slap the hand away and continue walking but that was before I looked up and saw Caleb grinning at me. "Hey to you too," I grinned back "I haven't ran into for awhile."
Caleb and I both went to the same high school bac home in Minnesota. He was the white boy that all the white girls in my advisory gushed over in their free time. We didn't acknowledge each other until our AP english teacher, Mr. Smith, forced us to work together and write an essay about the different themes in Macbeth.
Even then he and I didn't really hang out until we ran into each other in NY. He invited me over to dinner with his Girlfriend, Hannah, and we exchanged numbers and became friends.
The boy was fine, I'm not gonna be a hater. That didn't change the fact that he was taken however.
"Yeah, I, uh went to Mexico with the boys," He scratched the back of his head "After me and Hannah broke up."
I raised my eyebrows.
Must be why he's so comfortable having his hand on my back like that.
"What happened?" He gave me a weak chuckle and shrugged his shoulder. "Sometimes people just realize they aren't meant to be together."
"Uh-huh." I replied and he quickly cleared his throat. "So, what are you doing here? Didn't know magazines had such an interest in business and not gossip--" I shot him a glare before he could finish his sentence.
"So aggressive. I didn't mean it as an insult." He joked.
"It just so happens Isidoro Tech. is very interested in Daniat Magazine."
"You're serious?"
"Is it that hard to believe?" I asked.
Raising his hands his smiled, " It's all banter, Layla."
I gave him a blank stare.
"Really though, I'm happy for you. This must be big. Nadira must be freaking out over it."
I nodded in agreement before flashing back a smile to a passerby. "Yeah, I had a meeting with Mr. Isidoro this morning that had to be cut short." I replied curtly.
"Why?" He asked and I shrugged my shoulder before taking a quick swoop over the room. "Now that you've reminded me I just remembered I was supposed to continue the meeting tonight."
"Mr. Isidoro is right over there." He pointed as my eyes landed on him. His silver hair flashing out amongst the crowd.
