The cafeteria was packed with yelling students.  Every day it was like a zoo filled with crazed wild animals running and jumping around.  It was on a regular that people got knocked down and fights broke out.  Me being my little non existent self was  never noticed so I did not have to worry much.  I just knew how to dodge giant wild football players galloping my way.

Holding my plastic tray firmly in my hands I sashayed my way through mobs of students still waiting in lines for food. I was avidly counting down the seconds that I would be able to sit down and stuff my face with a nice hot cheeseburger and fries. I had to give it to the lunch staff...those women knew how to cook.

I made my way to the table in the back far corner of the cafeteria.  It was my usual table.  It was deserted and away from most of the loud chaos from the rest of the cafeteria.  I sat by myself eating and usually had a book in hand. I always had a book handy.

I was just feet from my table when out of nowhere my feet were kicked out from under me. I fell face first straight on the floor. I felt my lunch crush against my chest and immediately knew I was fucked.  I could hear people laughing from all around me, but I didn't look up from the floor.  I was so embarrassed.

"Sorry nerd. I didn't see you."

I didn't know the deep voice and I did not care to look and see if I knew the face behind the voice.  Whoever the guy was, was a jerk.

Wincing on the count of my extremely bruised knees I slowly picked myself up off the floor.  I bit my bottom lip hard to keep it from trembling when I saw my ruined shirt. I loved this shirt. Ketchup and mustard stains covered the front of it in one huge globby, goopy smear.

Swallowing hard I reached down picking my tray of ruined food off the floor before throwing it away in a nearby trashcan. Students were not allowed to leave the cafeteria until the lunch period was over so here I was stuck in a place that had well over fifty people looking at me snickering.

Ignoring the stares I busied myself trying my best to wipe as much ketchup and mustard off my shirt as I could with small paper napkins that I found sitting on the table.  It only smeared it worse. Yes my beautiful peacock shirt was no more.

Groaning I closed my eyes and threw the used napkin on the table.  When was this day ever going to end?

"Yo...here."

Great.  Just great.  Her again.

"Not now Kyria. I really don't feel like sparing with you right now." I didn't open my eyes. I didn't want to see the mean smile I knew would be on her face.

"Foster you surprise me.  Here I am trying to be a good citizen and you are just being all bitchy.  Just think what your mum would think if she was here right now."

"Now look here-," snapping my eyes open ready to yell at her I immediately shut my mouth.  There in front of my face was an unopened bag of potatoe chips.  Kyria with one hand in her pocket was just standing there holding them in front of me.  She was not even trying to make fun of me like usual.

"Well are you going to just sit there and stare at them or are you going to take them? I don't have all day Foster...tick tock."

I guess I did not act fast enough to suit her because she dropped the bag of chips on the table in front of me and rolled her eyes in annoyance.

"Whatever." She turned and started walking away with her hands shoved deep in her front pockets.

Feeling like a rude bitch I held the bag of chips up. "Thank you," I called waving the bag.

Kyria turned her head this time with a half smile on her face. It was a real one. "Whatever." She then turned back and resumed walking.

I nearly choked on a piece of chip when I saw her walk passed a table filled with jocks from the basketball team and slap one of them hard upside his head.

"Ow! Fuck!  What the hell was that for?" He demanded as he rubbed his dark head.

Kyria did not say a word she just glared hard at him. Those gray blue eyes could look deadly when she wanted them to. There was an unspoken threat there. The guy must have known her because he shut right up and turned back to face his friends in silence.

With a quick glance back at me Kyria then walked out of the cafeteria.  Two seconds later the bell rang letting us know that lunch time was over.

What just happened between Kyria and that jock?  It was like she was warning him or something.

  Who knew about her.

Sighing I shrugged my shoulders before walking out of the cafeteria myself.
