Amy's POV
When I got home later on that day my mom was waiting by the stairs with the biggest smile on her face that I have ever seen her make. Without knowing what was up I returned the smile.
"You okay mom? You look like you just won the lottery or something."
Laughing she ran to the small table by the door picking up three large envelopes. My heart started to beat faster by the second. I knew what the letters were. My mom quickly handed them to me.
"Hurry! Open them, I am dying to see what they say!"
Chewing on the inside of my lip I carefully opened the first one. It was from a great college in New York. I couldn't believe that the college was willing to give me a full tuition scholarship. I would just have to see if there were any listings for anyone needing a roommate in the surrounding area if I chose to go there.
My mom almost screamed the roof down around us. She kept pushing me to open the next one.
Much like the first it was from a college in California that was offering me a full ride scholarship. I should be more excited about this than what I was. I was happy to know that I got into two amazing colleges, but something in the back of my mind kept nagging at me. My mom was too excited to notice.
"Open the next one baby!"
The contents in this envelope however had me grinning from ear to ear. It was a small yet great community college just thirty minutes away from home. I could commute back and forth so easily. It was then I realized just what I was thinking. I was thinking about giving up on something that I had been planning to do for years and it shocked me.
After I read what the letter said out loud my mom was still happy just not as excited as she had been when she heard the news about the first two schools. It didn't upset me because I understood that she had known for years my dreams of leaving this town and going away for college. She had no way of knowing that, that was changing drastically by the day. How was I going to tell her that I was seriously thinking about staying?
I was being pulled into two very different directions. I could leave and go to an amazing college, but would I really be happy there? Then again I could stay here and be with my family and see if there was any way Kyria and I could be friends if not more in the future. I could, but would that all blow up in my face the way it seemed to have a habit of doing?
There was only one way to find out.
"Mom I will be back. I have to talk to someone. "
Snatching all the scholarships back from her I tore from the house like the hounds of hell were after me. I didn't know if she called out to me or not. My mind was on one thing and one thing only.
****************
I did not bother knocking and threw open Kyria's front door.
"Kyria are you here?! Kyria?!"
I was about to run up the stairs when the squid witch herself prissed slowly down. I hated Quinn with a passion and seeing her shiny red lips smiling like an evil cat had me wanting to walk right back out the door. However I had come this far so I was not going to let her ruin anything.
"What are you doing here dork?"
"I am not here to see you so move out of my way. I came here to talk to Kyria. "
Quinn laughed hysterically. "What part of her not being able to stand you do you not understand? It's really sad how you just keep running back even after she treats you like shit. You really are like a little sad puppy." She reached out as if she was going to touch my shoulder, but I shocked her and myself when I slapped her hand away.
