Yeah. What should I say. Self-study is something great, but not in a room with 30 other students who are talking to each other and not concentrating on the task.

The aim of the self-study is to get the opportunity to deepen a theme on your choice, writing a summary of the lecture etc.

At our school, there exist two kinds of self-study. On the one hand, you have self-study time just for you with any compulsory task to fulfil. You can decide where you like to study. It doesn't matter if you are in the library, the cafeteria, on a special calm study place or at home.

On the other hand, we have a so called accompanied self-study. That means you get a task, which you need to fulfil in this time. For open questions there is always a lecturer available. The task will be discussed in one of the following lectures. Usually you can decide, whether you stay in the lecture room or go somewhere else. Sometimes there are smaller rooms reserved, which offer a calmer atmosphere than the lecture room.

But today was different.

Firstly, they've controlled our attendance. That means we had to sign on an attendance list and stay in the lecture room.

As I already mentioned, concentrating and working in such an atmosphere is quite hard.

Secondly, the motivation was very low, as we otherwise just could go home as it was the last lesson of the day.

It really would have been easier doing the task at home, because in the end the task was not that hard and we didn't actually need the aid of the lecturer.

But we can't choose. Just do the best out of the situation.
