For those who do not already know what a simulation centre in a medical context is and about the function of it, I'm going to explain now.
In a simulation centre you have the opportunity to practice critical situations. It is addressed to doctors, nurses, anaesthetists, midwives and other health related professions. This training focus also on teamwork and communication. The aim of it is to lower the risk of negative incidents and to gain confidence in acting in critical situations, which are normally not daily business.
How should you imagine such a simulation centre? There are two rooms separated from each other. In the controlling room one person is managing the "special effects" of the situation and giving inputs over a microphone. She has the overview via a one-sided mirror window. The other room, where the whole critical situation is taking place, is comparable to a shock room. But it really depends on the situation which environment is needed. Sometimes a simple patient room or a delivery room is prepared.Having the possibility to train some and on in a simulation centre should be more frequently used. There haven't been much institution yet, which are supporting such an approach as far as I know.
