The sun had gone to rest and the moon took its place with a big black void engulfing the entire sky. There was a slight breeze that lightly touched my face while I hugged Lucas.
Eventually, Lucas released me and held me at arms-length. Despite the night I could see his icy blue eyes staring right at me while he deviously smirked.
"You look great" he complimented me as he observed me from head to toe and removed his grip on my shoulders then placed it in his pockets. "Very politicsy"
"That's not a word" I corrected him while I shook my head.
"I know"
I smirked at him. He truly was something else, something completely different. He was extremely obnoxious but his charmingness outweighed it, making it balance out somehow.
"Thanks for the compliment" I thanked him as I held my upper arm. "And you almost don't look like an asshole" I commented as he let out a laugh.
"Shall we" he held his arm out for me to grab.
"Let's" I complied by clutching onto his arm while we began to walk through the narrow pathway.
It actually felt nice despite being under the microscope part. It almost felt movie like, walking down the path arm in arm and under the moons gaze.
"Sorry for the late... notice" he began the conversation. "Mike was supposed to come instead but he bailed last minute"
I tried not to be insulted by the simple fact that I wasn't his first option, even though it was expected because we were basically just strangers since I'd only met him a couple of days ago. Anyways, it still stung me, well barely.
"What about Angela?" I looked up at him while we made our way to the door though my arms were still wrapped around his.
He scoffed loudly. "Angie?" he laughed to himself. "She just follows Mike around plus she's not exactly the best person to have around either" he confessed while he looked down at me making me slightly smile as he considered me to be good company.
My heartbeat began to increase once we gotten closer to the door, closer to the voices and closer to the light. It felt like my head was spinning and my vision was blurring which immediately brought a flashback of when I was in second grade and thought that it would be a great idea to join the school play until I passed out because of my inability to say the only word I had to say, 'help'.
I began to take deep breaths to avoid another scenario that I suffer the same faith. Unfortunately, we came to a halt outside the front door and Lucas turned around to face me with a concerned look on his face.
"You ok?"
"..Peachy" I hesitantly lied.
Although my eyes were on the door, I could see a smile appear across his face. "You'll be fine" he whispered into my ear before he pushed the door open.
The light in the hall hit my face forcing me to blink several times. In an attempt to adjust my eyes to the transition of dark to bright. I received a couple of sneers from both the men and women, once I'd entered the mansion.
Judging by the number of people who'd already began to horde the fundraiser. It was safe to say that, I was extremely late. Not the best way to start off the night, especially since my aim is to not drag a lot of attention to myself.
"There's a lot of people here" I blatantly pointed out while I began to fidget with my fingers.
"That's means more money" he informed me as I furrowed my brows at him. "For the campaign" he hastily clarified.
