Chapter Nine

Two weeks later

Two weeks passed since our arrival to England. Eight out of the fourteen days were spent with the boys where they even came to visit us on three of the days. Even Mum is quite fond of them now and Dad – not so much. Emma tagged along on two days to their house because I’d convinced Freya to invite her along since I thought Emma needed a distraction. She took an instant liking to them just as I had on my first visit. She appeared to be a little happier ever since meeting them and the boys never failed to entertain. She laughs a lot more too.

I laughed lightly to myself as I recalled Harry’s initial reaction when the boys first met Emma:

“Damn Freya! Why are your cousins so hot? We should invite more of your cousins next time.” He winked at Emma, who blushed, before winking at me. That comment didn’t go down well with Freya though because she kept hitting him on the head with an expression of offence.

I broke out of this trance as Liam began speaking. This is my ninth day with the boys and Emma’s sixth day. We were all in their living room; Niall, Freya and Emma sat on one sofa with Freya sandwiched in between them and Liam, Zayn and Louis sat on the other sofa. I noticed that Liam always sat on the same sofa, in the same seat. Harry and I lay down on the floor, his arm acting as a pillow for my head. My arm was over his stomach. We had all become like a family.

“So in three days we’re going to that funfair, right?  It’s the last day of the fair,” Liam asked the rest of us to sum up the plan.

“Yhup, Mum and me are taking them sightseeing tomorrow and the day after so we won’t see you until then,” Freya confirmed, pointing to Emma and me when she said ‘them.’

“Yes! Two days without you, how peaceful!” Harry cheered, referring to Freya. He punched the air.

“Hey, don’t say that!” Zayn came to Freya’s defence as she stood up and punched Harry in his stomach and hit his head. I moved out the way and we laughed as Harry struggled to keep her away from him but eventually she stopped attacking him.

“I was only kidding anyway. A day without you brings a tear to my eye.” I moved again as he stood up and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a dramatic hug.

“You’re an idiot Harry, did you know that?” Liam commented. I smiled to myself. I loved how Liam was able to voice my thoughts, although he didn’t know it. Harry returned to the floor and I lay on his arm as he offered his arm as a cushion again.

Throughout the weeks I found myself developing stronger feelings for Liam. I finally accepted that I liked him but nothing can come of it right? I mean, I’m leaving in four weeks. The thought saddened me.

“We all know that,” Niall answered to Liam’s comment. Harry’s stomach bounced up and down under my arm as he laughed.  He briefly glanced at me, probably to check if I was still alive since I was unusually quiet. “ Iggy, why are you smiling into the air like that?”

“Err… Harry, is your arm hurting now? I can move my head if you want.” I hadn’t realised I was still smiling at the thought of Liam and blushed as I tried to change the subject.

“Oh, little Iggle Wiggle has a crush on Harry. She’s blushing,” Louis teased, mistakening my blush for something else.

“No, I don’t,” I replied matter-of-factly. “Hey! Since when is my name Iggle Wiggle?”

Everyone, including Emma, was laughing at the choice of name Louis used.

“I used to call you Iggles when we were little all the time until you were about fourteen, you started complaining that it’s too baby-ish for you, so I started calling you Iggy instead,” Emma said through fits of laughter. At least she’s begun to talk to me. She only started talking to me recently though, where it’d only be a few words. I mean, it’s nothing like before where we would share secrets and gossip all the time but it’s better than nothing.

“Yeah well, it was so embarrassing; you were sixteen and going around calling me Iggles, your friends were laughing at me,” I moaned. The others were just listening into our conversation.

“Haha, I can imagine,” Louis teased.

“My friends are your friends. You even d ––” she froze as she realised what she was about to say. I knew exactly what her words were going to be.

A lump caught in my throat once again, my eyes filling up with tears. Why did she always do this? Just when we were having fun, she had to remind me of it. I had almost forgotten about it. This was a memory never to be forgotten though.

I was rooted to the spot, replaying the event that put us in this emotional position. Voices around me became distant but I was still aware of my surroundings: Emma breaking down into tears as she ran out of the house, Liam offering to follow her, Louis going after the both of them so he could make sure they were alright and, finally, the nudge of concern Harry gave me as I went over the event again and again in my head.
