Fade Away

Chapter 6| The Move

After turning around on my bed for the umpteenth time, I just decided to lay awake and let my thoughts consume me. Now that it's seven in the morning, I realize that that might not have been my best decision, especially considering I have school to attend to.

I sighed when I saw my eyes hollow into my skull. Nothing a little eye-shadow can't fix. I dab a little bit of blue on my lids, brush my hair and leave it out. I put on the bracelet and run outside the door.

I loved walking to school, despite me having an excuse of a car. It gave me a chance to collect my thoughts. There had been a little flirting with Hades and Bella and Matthew seemed to get along too. In fact, we had all been hanging out together for the past few days and I can't say the company was miserable. 

As Halloween approached closer, party invitations were flying around like leaves in the wind. But of course, everyone did know that the only party everyone would inevitably end up going to was Hades's. He had some guts, pulling that move. I smiled, thinking about him. I didn't mind hanging out with him. I guess I could forgive him for his little stunt. But I was still putting up a fight. 

Hades approached me more than a few times to ask me to be his date at his party. All those times, I had dodged the question or just pretended not to hear. I was scared he was going to just look for someone else if I pushed him too hard but I was proved wrong when I saw his car approach me. This was almost like our little thing. I would still refuse to get into the car, but he would always accompany me till school, driving at a snail's pace right next to me. It was a good thing there wasn't much traffic in this route. I smiled when he rolled the window down and waved. 

'How long are you gonna make me wait?' Hades asked, referring to his question about me being his date. 

'Wait for what?' I say, teasing him. He rolls his eyes, and sighs. 

'Will you be my date for the party? Please.' He begs. I almost gave in but I stood my ground. 

'I don't know Hades. Will I?' I play around with him. A sly smile escapes me as I see him face-palm himself. I laugh a little. 

'Please Anna.' He begs again. His eyes turn dark with concern. They're beautiful, his eyes. 

'Maybe.' I say. He stares at me in shock. 

'Just say yes already.' He begs.

'Fine. Yes!' I say, giving in. 'That must've been quite hard for you huh? Asking me to be your date like that? I bet you didn't even have to ask girls from your old school.' I state.

'It was refreshing, yes. I don't think I've tried this hard for anyone.' He says. 'But Anna, this isn't just you being a date for my party. I...' He trailed. His eyes faced down. My heart was hammering inside me, telling me that something good or bad was going to happen. Adrenaline rushed through me and my pace increased. 'I want you to be my girlfriend.' He mumbled. He said it so quietly that I probably wouldn't have heard it if I wasn't paying attention to what he was saying.

I didn't know what to say. I just stood there. Hades stopped the car next to me. We just looked at each other for what seemed like eternity. I was frozen and completely taken by surprise. Tears formed in my eyes. I don't think I liked Hades like that. Sure, he was beyond the average male and had a face that Greek gods probably sculpted. But I was sure. I didn't like him like that. I didn't think I could like him after a prank. I didn't think he was serious when he was about to kiss me that day. I didn't think he really felt those things for me. And I sure as hell wasn't ready for a boyfriend. I thought we were just playfully flirting. Like a fall fling or something. But his eyes were serious, they showed me how much he was hoping that I'd say yes. I could see it. If I said no to him right now, he would break. 

Then, I said it. I said what I didn't want to. I said what I hoped wouldn't be real. 

'Yes.' 

I realized then, that I was going to build up his world by tearing mine down.
