Sans woke up with a severe kink in his neck, and his brain was foggy. He sat up, and looked around, remembering what had happened. His bed was empty. Apparently Frisk was up already. That wasn't good. They might have told Tori about his 'meltdown', and knowing her, she'd feel guilty.
Sans glanced at the clock, and groaned. It was almost noon. He clamored off of the ground, and shuffled out of his bedroom. No one was home, but there was a plate on the kitchen counter, next to a little note. 'You got up late, so I left you a bagel with strawberry cream cheese. I know that it's your favorite! -Toriel.'
That woman was something else, that's for sure. Sans grabbed the bagel, which was still warm from fire magic, and went to sit on the couch. Frisk was at school since it was Monday, and everyone else was at work or simply not home. This left Sans at home by himself. The perfect opportunity to watch TV alone.
He switched on a show about aliens, and ate the bagel as he watched. It was actually pretty interesting. By the time the last episode of the day aired, it was almost time for Frisk to walk home. He decided he may as well go meet them at school, and walk them back.
He arrived at the middle school just as the bell rang. Children flooded from the doors, but none of them were Frisk. Actually, the last one out of the building was the kiddo. Their head was down, and they were clutching to their backpack straps like their life depended on it.
"Bad day, huh?" Sans asked, patting the kid's shoulder.
They simply nodded. Apparently they didn't want to talk about it. He decided it was time for a few jokes to lighten the mood.
"Come on, quit skullking around. Don't you have a funny bone?" The puns barely got him a smile. Yeesh. Tough crowd.
The kid sighed, and signed, "The other kids were being mean to me... They called me a mute, and told me I was better off broken... They called me a monster."
"What?! Why did they do that?" Sans was honestly shocked.
This kid had a heart of gold. They were nice to every single person they ever met. He couldn't think of one person that truly hated Frisk, because you can't hate someone who was born to love and be loved. Since he didn't know all the details, he wouldn't be dunking those kids personally, but he would definitely be having a nice long chat with the principal.
Frisk shrugged. "My mom and my dad are a goat and a skeleton. My uncle is a skeleton. My aunts are a lizard and a fish. My other uncle is a robot... My other dad is a goat... I guess they have a point... Huh...?"
Sans shook his head firmly, and began to walk. "No way. They're just jealous, because their families are boring. Anyways, wanna go get some nice cream? I think I have some quarters..."
Frisk smiled, and quickly followed after him. "You know what, Sans?"
"What's that?"
"I think you make a pretty good dad."
Sans felt his face begin to heat up, as he dug around in his pockets for change. "Er... T-thanks..." He spoke quietly, which caused Frisk to smirk.
They arrived at the nice cream stand a few minutes later. Frisk got vanilla, while Sans got chocolate peanut butter. The inside of his wrapper read, "Have a fabu-ful day!" Frisk refused to show theirs to him, though. He didn't know why though...
By the time the two got home, Tori was back from a teacher meeting. Frisk ran up up to their mom, gave her a hug, and handed the nice cream wrapper to her. After she read it, the kiddo pointed to Sans, which set him on edge, especially when Tori blushed.
Without a word, Toriel rushed off to her bedroom. Sans looked at Frisk, who was beaming with excitement. He didn't question it. Instead, he decided to take a nap. It had been a long two days, and his brain felt like it might explode. As he walked up the stairs, he noticed Frisk run out the front door, probably to go play in the leaves. Autumn was their favorite season, after all.
