How you met - 4: Confession

"How on earth would Near get in my room??..." You thought as you continued to take all the toys out from underneath your bed.

You knew Near was a genius. He could have his way on getting into your room without you even knowing.

You scratched your head as you continued to clean.

"Could he possibly be coming in while I'm sleeping?... No... Near wouldn't do such a thing. Could he possibly be spying on me right now??" You looked at all his toys on the ground as you decided to put them all in a bag.

Once you've done that, you checked around your room for any hidden cameras. The thought of him being a stalker made you freeze. But you knew Near wasn't like that at all. You knew Near wouldn't mean bad intentions from his actions when it came to you.

But you still didn't understand why he would have his toys in here. Until you decided to stay up tonight. You were going to pretend you were sleeping, to see if he would come to your room that night. 

You looked at the time and waited for it to be bed time.

It was night time. You tucked yourself into bed and faced the wall as you usually did. You closed your eyes as you tried to stay awake.

"1:30am"🎲🕧

Suddenly, you heard your door knob being open. You swore you locked it well before you went to bed. You heard tiny footsteps come into your room and felt something against your cheek. It felt warm. And it felt like it was coming out of someones nose. It was nose breathing.

You were eager to open your eyes and turn to see who it was but you decided to wait. When the room got quiet, you heard tiny noises on the floor. You heard tiny ticks every second that passed. You shoot open your eyes and slowly turned your head to the other side.

The room was dark. You could barely see anything in the dark. But when your eyes finally focused, you noticed a white figure sitting on the floor.

"Near?!..." You said in your head.

You slowly got out bed and reached for the light lamp. Your eyes widen to see it was Near sitting on the floor. There were tons of dominoes lined up in order but made some sort of pattern. Near looked at you carefully.

"Hello (Y/N)..." He said with a small smile that formed on his innocent face.

It was your first time seeing Near smile at you before. He never smiles. Why would he smile now? In a time like this?!

"N-Near?!..what are you-" You got cut off by him.

"Yes?" He said to you.

"...W-... What are you doing in my room?! Do you even know what time it is?!..." You said in shock. But at the same, you blushed.

He continued to put the dominoes on the floor steadily.

"It's 1:34am....Why haven't you came by to see me?..." He spoke in his usual monotone voice.

At this point, you didn't know what to say. Instead, you just looked away.

"...(Y/N).... You didn't let me finish the other day.....why did you leave?"

Your heart skipped a beat when he said that. You felt nervous once more. You felt like you were about to melt. Your face was beginning to heat up again.

"I...I..." You sigh.

"I thought you were going to reject me....i was afraid.....that's why I left.." You admitted to him. You felt your eyes begin to water again.

"Why would I reject you?...there was no reason for you to leave..." He simply said while he placed the last domino on the line.

You wiped away your tears with your sleeve as you noticed him walking over to you. You looked at him in the eyes.

"...(Y/N)..." He said looking into your eyes.

"Yes?..." You sniffed.

"...I can't return my feelings for you. You see..." He started.

"...W-why can't you?" You asked him as you felt your heart break into two.

"....Alright. I'm going to tell you the truth. You deserve it after all. You have gained my trust and you are my very first friend I ever had. So I will tell you everything you need to know..." He placed his hands on your shoulders carefully.

"The truth?... What truth is he talking about?" You thought.

"...(Y/N)..... My real name isn't Near. That's just my Aliases name. My real name is... Nate River. The reason why i have an alias name is because i am on one of L's successors. We use aliases to keep ourselves safe from danger. I'm not the only successor that L's got. Their is another boy named Mello. But aside from that, L has recently past away. Remember that day you couldn't find me? Well, i was at a meeting and they told me the tragic news. The great detective L has been killed by Kira. I'm sure you've heard of him. If not, now you know. And since... L is dead now, I have been chosen to be the next L. Even though L didn't made up his choice yet. They still chose me because I'm a lot like him. And since I'm taking his place now, I can't be distracted at the moment. I will be leaving this place soon. And i tried spending as much time with you as i can. Just like i am now..." He finally finished.

After a moment of silence, you took a moment to process everything he had said in your head.

"Oh. I see. I understand now......so then you-"

"Yes, (Y/N). This means that I do like you back...but since i have become the second L, i can't have any feelings for anybody. L was serious about his job and he couldn't get distracted. If he did get distracted, then his cases will never be solved or get to anywhere. Do you understand now, (Y/N)?...."

You only nodded your head as you looked away from him. The thought of him leaving made you break down from the inside. But at the same, you were happy to know that he liked you back. Although he couldn't because of his job.

Near went back to his dominoes as he pushed the first one down. You watched it knock each one of them at a time. Until you noticed a pattern in them. Once the pattern was complete, your eyes widen in surprise.

You looked back at Near to notice him smile at you. And back to the patter that said,

'I like you too, (Y/N)'
