Nicole's POV
"The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive." I read the sentence out loud, announcing it to the silence surrounding me. The thought that came to my mind that this was absolute nonsense.
"Kids! Come on down here." My dad's voice rang through the house as he shouted from downstairs. I placed my book down on the bedside table and got off my bed.
I opened my bedroom door and at the exact same time, my twin brother Jonathan did the same. His room was across from mine and he showed me a challenging look with an evil smirk on his face. I immediately caught on to what he was hinting.
In a second, we slammed our doors shut and ran to the stairs, slamming each other in the process.
"Get off of me, you little shit." My brother spat while I retorted with a glare and said. "Don't touch me."
At the bottom of the stairs, Jonathan pushed me on to the floor before stepping on my back while making sure to put all his fat ass weight was on top of me. He began heading to the living room while got up, groaning to myself and clenched my back with my left hand.
I slumped in the couch, knowing precisely that there is no use fighting with him, even though he clearly cheated.
Jonathan leaped in joy and I sat irritatedly while he shook his ass left and right in front of my face, forcing me to shudder in disgust.
"How many times do I have to warn you both from your silly and unexcusable fights? You just graduated from high school a week ago, so stop acting like children and grow up." My mom with her infamous glare, hands on her hips while standing all tall in the middle of the living room, lectured us loudly on with a disappointed look evident on her face.
Jonathan froze mid-wy through and slumped in the couch next to me while lowering his head in shame. So was I. My brother and I had nothing in common except for our undeniable love to our mother. She's our everything and seeing her disappointed in us made us both feel remorseful of our actions.
My dad sat on his usual chair, his hands intertwined together. A clear sign that a surprise is going to come out of his lips.
"Okay, now your mother and I thought hard to ourselves and decided..." he stopped talking for a dramatic effect while I looked at him bored in the eye."...As a graduation gift, you can have the beach house in Cali for a week. You can bring your friends along if you want." He explained and my eyes grew wide.
"No!"
"What?!"
Two different shouts came out of Jonathan and I's lips, but of course, for dissimilar reasons. I wanted to stay at home for the rest of the summer and then go to college without any scenarios that would potential ruin my life. Until then, I want to stay at home, relax and read my books alone with no interruptions.
Unlike Jonathan here, he's loving this conversation already. He carried a huge grin on his face while I had a frown upon mine.
"Dad, I congratulate you. For the first in your life, you succeed in your dramatic pauses." With a praise, Jonathan told my dad who smiled with victory in return. "That's not a compliment." Jonathan stated. Dad smile fell instantly. Jonathan always thought drama was for girls. Such a sexist.
My dad is a huge fan of drama. He's the one who cries from watching titanic while my mom held him, shushing him every time he subbed harder. She Warns him saying, the kids might hear you. But I heard everything.
My dad and Jonathan have this incredible bond together. He can joke with him whenever he wanted. Unless, dad's in his serious mode.
I turned to my mom "What if we don't want to go?" I said, trying to get out off this somehow, but it sounded like a question. Jonathan looked at like I'm crazy.
"Why don't you want to go?" My mom said in a heartbroken voice and looked at me with sorrowful eyes. Nicole don't fall for it. Don't fall for it. Don't fall for it. I fell for it.
"What.... nn-no of course not, I would love to go." I stuttered. She smiled suddenly. "Well then, you're leaving tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be a long ride." My mom said. Which made me regret falling for my mom's pouting face. She always does that to get what she wants.
"But...." My dad pointed." you're going to take your baby brother with you, so Jonathan that means no partying." My dad warned. Jonathan started going on a fit, illustrating how bad that idea is while I laughed my ass off. His face was ridiculous.
"You guys just want to have the week for yourselves" Jonathan stated. Well that kind of make sense....
My mom and dad just walked away leaving Jonathan with his fits and me with my laughter.

Next morning, I was walking down the hall with a book in my hand, when I heard her voice. Lauren, my brother's girlfriend. I fixed my glasses and kept reading, ignoring the dull feeling in my heart.
When all of a sudden I felt a shoulder slamming on mine. "Watch it nerd." Jonathan said, his hand intertwined with Lauren's as they walked by me.
For a few seconds, my eyes made contact with hers while she was laughing. The seconds proceeded slower than ever. Her eyes are so beautiful. Well, she's stunning. She has a figure of a model, her eyes are dark brown, her hair is golden blonde and she's almost perfect. If it wasn't for her manipulative, heart draining attitude, she would be perfect.
They headed to Jonathan's room while I shouted "Assholes."
"Watch it Cole. you're still living in my house." My mom warned, passing by me, carrying the laundry basket. I tried to protest but she walked away from my eye sight.
I sighed and walked downstairs. I saw my baby brother Matthew playing with his toys in the living room. I walked in the living room and sat at the couch next to him, while he played on the floor. I placed my book down on the couch beside me. "Why is she her?" I asked Matthew, knowing full well that he doesn't understand what I'm saying.
I sighed again and picked him up, rocking him in my arms while he giggled. I smiled at him as giggled louder. Few minutes later, I saw my mom heading to the kitchen. I placed Matthew down next to his toys and followed my mom.
I entered the kitchen. "Mom why is Lauren here?" I asked, getting straight to the point. "She's going with you guys." she replied, like it was nothing. Well, for her it's nothing. "Why?" I asked again. "Well, your dad did say friends are allowed to go too." She replied back.
Now I know my dad aloud friends to come but the thing is....I had a crush on Lauren a few years ago. Had. Past reference. And I'm afraid the feelings well resurface.
"Why don't you ask your friends to go with you?." My mom asked. "They're not here mom, chris is with his family on a vacation in Moscow and Rita is in L.A. with her friends." I replied.
"Well you don't have to worry Jonathan's friends are going too." She said, smiling.
My eyes winded with terror. I graduated from high school and got away from those jerks. "WHAT?!" I shouted. And just then the bell rings.
