Peter must have felt me move and he yawned and his eyes fluttered open. I turned around; his eyes were red and a bit puffy at that. So were mine I suppose but it's not every day you get to see Peter Pan crying. I looked into his eyes, sparkling, I couldn't stand the sight.
"Good morning sunshine"
Now, I didn't know what to do with the situation at hand because it was his morning voice and it's Peter Pan saying that to me.
"Good morning Peter Pan" I replied as quietly as humanly possible. He went to kiss me and ultimate pain. The hammock broke. We both landed on our sides basically ending up on our backs. Both of us moaning in pain, until we saw each other struggling and laughed.
"Well that moment was ruined," I said through pain and a bit of disappointment.
"A moment with me can never be ruined. I'm Peter Pan I'm me" he leans over and kisses me. He was so warm and I went with it. Why not, I thought to myself. It ended abruptly with a tug on my hair.
"What in the worl-" I turned around and I was greeted with fairy dust in the eyes. Now I have never been sprayed with pepper spray but I would imagine it felt like this.
"Tinkerbell what are you doing!?" Peter yelled at the sparkling green fairy hovering over me ready to strike. As I lay rubbing my eyes a reassuring hand is placed on my shoulder and Peter is out the window catching the damn fairy. I hear little feet climbing the tree and little jack greets me with open arms.
"What's wrong lady Ella?"
"Just got some fairy dust thrown at my eyes"
Instant response from all of them getting whatever clean towels they had and helping me wash my fairy dust infected eyes. I was afraid to open my eyes at first, but when I did I was glad. All the lost boys were gathered around me in a huddle, making sure with the upmost concern I was ok.
"I'm alright boys"
They all got up and jumped smiling and laughing. They were so proud of this act of kindness. I couldn't help but laugh with them. They were so innocent all of them. Jack runs over to me arms around my neck skunk hat nearly in my mouth.
"I was scared you wouldn't be able to see me anymore," he whispered in my ear as I let him down. I had known these boys for a mere few hours and they had fallen in love. And I didn't know why but I accepted it
Before I knew it I was on the bottom of a dog pile of lost boys laughing and giggling. I hear that whistle once again. "Boys! Let the lady go," Peter was not pleased. They got up and were in an instant line, Jack closest to me of course. I put my arm around jack as he looked rather startled by peters little whistle. Peter shot me a look that could kill. I drew Jack closer and he buried his tired eyes in my shoulder and I hugged him.
"Jack" Peter said
"Yessir?" He looked up from my shoulder not leaving my embrace.
"Front and center."
"Peter they are-"
"No" he looked at me then at jack who walked forward, all eyes on him.
"Go to your room and don't come out until I say"
"Yessir" he replied eyes down and started to walk away.
I grabbed his arm and pulled him close,
"Peter Pan this boy is not going to his room, you are not their father,"
Gasps echoed the room. Every boy had their heads down. Jack looked at me with tears in his eyes.
"That's a bad word lady Ella, it makes him remember our old mother"
Peter looked out the window into the midmorning sun.
"I am, I am they need to learn stories and know right from wrong I am I am." Eyes fixated on me. He said these words as if he was in a trance.
"I didn't mean-"
"I know what you meant Ella, if you don't like how I run things fine, find some other boy. Because I'm not just any boy, I found just what I thought I wouldn't."
"And that is?"
"You"
Silence. He flew out the window tears streaming down his face and mine as well.
"Ella he didn't mean it," Mitz said as we walked over arm around my shoulder.
"Yea he just misses Lady Wendy," Ben replies.
"Yes you have her eyes" Alexander says with confidence and curiosity. I find them all looking at me eyes in awe.
"You do have her eyes! You look at us like she did," jack tells me in his little voice. You could hear my heart shatter. Hear the memories and story elements spill out on to the floor.
"I look like her?"
"Mhmm" they reply.
I started to cry and I got hugs from all the boys, reassuring words floated around my head, but I didn't hear. All I knew was I broke Peter Pans heart and I was breaking the other boys hearts as well. I couldn't stand it.
"Could you guys make me my own little house like yours? So I can sleep there tonight and if I ever visit I can come stay?" I said through sniffles and hugs.
"Yea!" They exclaimed.
"It will be ready by sunset miss!!" Jerry said as they ran down the ladder on the tree.
I sat, not knowing how to feel how to comprehend what Peter Pan had said to me. I looked out the window he just flew out of not knowing what to feel. Jack popped his head back up,
“Don’t worry Lady Ella! I will fix it!” He said with a smile.
“Awe sweetheart get your butt down there with the rest of the boys, I will be down soon,” He slid down the ladder and was out of ear shot.
Well, that’s definitely the way to start out my first day in Neverland with lost boys and a broken main character. My plot is going down hill fast.
