The sickness - part 13

The doctor said to John that Danny had better go for a walk everyday with someone. Sometimes she goes with Jane and sometimes she goes with John. But in the last few weeks, Jane hasn't done it. She always asks John to do it. He has no problem with it but he wants to know why. They are having lunch.

Jane: Can you again go with Danny tomorrow for a walk?

John: Yes I can do that, but why? It is your day right?

Jane: Oh yes I know but something happened in the firm, so I'll have to go there early.

john: Again?

Jane: Sorry, what?

John: You have to go to the firm early, but again? In the last weeks you only have gone very soon there. You are working more than you should. You look like tired all time. You are working a lot. You should rest.

Jane: Ahm... John, take care about Danny ok? She needs you now. I have to work.

John: She needs you too. What is your problem? You can't say to me, that is because of money! We don't need to work a lot to get it. We have enough. Please...

They become a bit angry with the situation and Jane stands up.

Jane: You know what? You are not my father and boyfriend neither, so I don't have to tell you what I am going to do and you can't tell me what I should do ok? So see you later.

John: Wait. where are you going?

Jane: Rest! Im my room!

Jane goes to her room and the same time a letter comes through the door. It is a clinic exam result. John reads the letter but doesn't give Jane.

In the next morning John and Danny go for a walk. Danny talks about the discussion that she heart yesterday between John and Jane.

Danny: I don't like how you talk to eachother. It is always a lot of pain in your voice...

John: I think Jane never loved me.

Danny: Oh Come on! You both have a love story! You fight to be together!

John: no, I fight to be with her. I think... I don't know, it is so weird. I know that she has a complicated family story. With her parents and sister, but I could give her a new life! But she wanted it.

Danny: Oh yes I think I know what it is.

John: No, you don't. You and Renfro love eachother! You fight for your love!

Danny looks John very angry.

Danny: What? What a hell are you saying???? I did everything for him. Everything! And he told me that it was over! He chose the drugs! He loves everything or everyone, but me. So I don't think that I want so see him again...not anymore.

John: Danny you can't say that. Now you are angry or hurt but in a couple of months you can go back and talk about it with him.

Danny: I love him... (she cries a bit) but I am not going to do this again.

John: Hey Danny, please don't cry again. (he hugs her) I am sorry for that, ok? Let's sit down there.

They sit in a bench down and John try to talk to Danny about the letter.

John: Danny... I - I - I found something.

Danny: what did you found.

John: A letter. I know that you are still sick and doing your best now to be a new person but...

Danny: John, are you crying? What is going on? Tell me! What is this letter?

John: It is a clinic exam. Of Jane. She... She is sick again.

Danny: She is what? No, no. She wouldn't do this with us. She would tell us about.

John: She didn't. Danny in the last weeks I saw that she was very tired. probably the treatment.

Danny: No, she wouldn't do this with us. Noway.

John: Danny, do you really think that she would tell us in this situation that you are?

Danny: But John, we are a family!

John: She is probably there right now!

Danny: So we should go there, right now!

They look in the letter to have the address and go by taxi. They get to the clinic and find the same doctor who took care of Danny.

John: What are you doing here?

Doctor: I work here.

John: So you know about Jane! And didn't tell us!

Doctor: I don't have permission to talk about my patients.

Danny: John, he is right.

Doctor: But if you want to know where she is, I can help you. Follow me.

They go to a room, where a lot of people are doing chemotherapy. She is also doing but she didn't see when they come closer. As she saw them, she cries.

Danny: You don't have to cry. Not anymore. We are here now with you.

John: Sorry because of yesterday. How should I know? He takes her hand and give it a kiss.

Jane: I am scared.

Doctor: You don't have too. The treatment is very effective. I told you.

Jane: I know. But now, my family is here. I will not be scared anymore. She smiles.
