"What?"
"I believe there was no blunder in my speech." Lydia's arms were crossed and she held her chin high. In all her years of living, this is the one thing she would stick up for. No way was she forcibly being pushed into a marriage."So you have been climbing out of the window everyday now to meet a boy in the woods?" The Queen repeats as though she didn't believe it.
"I love him."
And at this, she scoffs and stands from her chair at the end of the long dining table. What could her daughter possibly know about love. Lydia watched her actions timidly, ready to run and escape at any moment.
"Nonsense. You are to be wed to Jackson and that is the end of things." She said it without so much of a single glance at the girl, flipping through a few books to find her next lesson.Lydia reminded herself to breath, inhaled deeply, and stuck to the plan.
"He has made a proposal." She squeaked. The queen froze completely.
"This boy?" She questioned with slightly gritted teeth. Lydia nodded. Her mother began to pace in a fury as the princess took a seat with a huff. Thus began the long hour of yelling and arguments. Stiles had proposed but Lydia was already set to be married. The queen shouted how she was under impression to say no even thought she had already said yes. And Lydia would argue back about the dual.
Yes, you heard right, a dual. The princess wasn't dumb and in fact had done her research in the castles library. If two men wanted to have her hand, they'd be sent to fight. As soon as Lydia's mother had settled with this thought, she took a deep breath.
"I will have a room prepared." She grumbles, walking back to her books. Lydia stood. "...he stays here?"
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||Stiles' father had a mixed expression of pride and disappointment. He questioned it a final time, escorting his son through the castle gates.
"You have been meeting the princess?"
"Yes sir, I have sir..." Stiles spoke nervously. The man's lip quirked at his sons response. "But I did not know it had been her."
His father nodded in understanding, waving briefly at a passing guard. Stiles took a deep breath and hiked his bag further up on his shoulder. He couldn't believe it. He'd wanted to live in the castle all his life and now finally he would, even if momentarily. Following his father through the front garden, he quickly admired the nicely trimmed hedges or the perfectly round
"Stiles!" The came a voice from further down the corridor accompanied by a little shriek and the running of footsteps. Lydia was in his arms in an instant. He dropped his belongings to catch her, a chuckle at his lips. "You're father?" She questions when their hug was over, looking to the man. Stiles nods shyly and Lydia smiles "you've always been my favorite, follow me."
She took him by the hand, pretty over excited but eager to show him around knowing he'd probably never seen anything like this in his life. But of course he hadn't. His eyes glistened at the hand painted ceilings, the tapestries lining the halls, even the floors seemed as though they were adorned with gold.
"Wait until you see the garden." Lydia laughed at his amazed expressions. Her statement brought his eyes to her level. A smile grew between them. So she took his hand, practically skipping her way towards the doors that led to her hidden garden. She could hardly wait to see the love on his face because although she had shown it to him that night at the dance, he didn't get to see it up close. It was a treat for her as well. He left his things on the small half-balcony that over looked everything (where they had been the night of the accidental kiss).
She followed him around as he began to name off his favorite floral arrangements, knowing absolutely everything about every single one and she had never seen a man so invested with flowers. "Peony, paeonia, genus." He recited the names easily for a single pink flower. "Lobelia, cardinalis. . . These are one of my favorites." He said for another, slightly embarrassed. But she smiled, a reassurance he had no need to be embarrassed of his little memorization trick.
"You like it." She hummed.
"Absolutely."She took his hand again, saying he could come down here any time he'd like, and led him back to the castle after grabbing his belongings. Back through the ball room, along an everlasting hallway, then down to where the kitchen was.
"This is where we pester Allison." Lydia smiled. The statement caused Allison to stop rolling the dough she was currently working on and place her hands on her hips.
"It's bad enough I had to deal with you one at a time but now I have to deal with you simultaneously." She grumbled, indicating she was busy by throwing her eyes towards the pile of flour next to what she was currently working on. Lydia shrugged and claimed they would leave her alone and only wanted a snack. "Cannot allow that. Dinner will be starting in a few and your mother would like to meet the boy."
