You spent the afternoon dueling with your friends. The rematch against Yuya was over quickly, with you being the winner. You knew you were a pretty good duelist, but you didn't really realize how good until you beat him twice in a row. There was no calling it luck.
When you arrived home that night, you found your mum asleep at the kitchen table. Her duel disk was strapped to her forearm, with her deck at the ready. You had only seen your mum duel a handful of times since your father disappeared as it brought back painful memories for her. This made her having her dueling equipment out even stranger.
She looked pretty tired and rattled, and so you made some tea to calm her down before gently shaking her awake.
She startles when she sees you, almost knocking the cup of tea from your hand.
"Oh (y/n)! I'm sorry darling, I didn't see you there." The shadows under her eyes are worse than before.
"Are you OK? You seem worn out. I made you some tea. I hope it helps."
Your mum takes the tea and thanks you. After a long sip, she finally answers your question.
"I'll be fine. I just had a hard day. I was dueling a... friend, and you know what that's like for me." You nod in understanding. "Just please (y/n), promise me something."
You are hesitant in answering. "What is it?"
"Take the day off tomorrow. You have been working so hard on exams lately. Stay at home and do a little bit of studying, but relax the rest of the day, just don't leave the house." Her accompanying smile is weak.
"But mum, I have a biology assignment due tomorrow!"
"I will write a note to your teacher or hand it in for you on the way to work."
"But–"
"(y/n)! There is no room for discussion. You are staying home and that is final." She takes another sip of tea and massages her temple with her spare hand. "Please." She just sounds so tired.
"Fine, but you'll have to drop my assignment off. I'm not handing it in late for no reason." [You are very dedicated to getting a good grade, even if it never requires much effort. You are just naturally an awesome genius in school and dueling! ;-)]
Your mother nods and goes back to drinking her tea, staring off into the distance.
You ignore her and storm up to your room. It just didn't make sense! She wouldn't give you a reason, and you weren't even allowed out of the house. You couldn't see your friends, although they would technically still be at school, and you couldn't even go to the shops or the park! It was like you were under house arrest or something for a crime you did not commit. Something didn't add up.
What were you meant to do without school to distract you from your thoughts, to distract you from Yuto?
*time skip to next morning*
Your mood the next morning isn't exactly cheerful.
Your mum has already left for work by the time you wake (with your report ;)). The only good thing about having to stay home is that you got to sleep in. You wander down to the kitchen to make breakfast when your phone buzzes with a text message from Yuzu asking where you are and if you are OK. You reply, telling her that you are at home sick. She offers her best wishes for your return to health, but leaves you alone after that.
You sigh. Today is going to be boring. Quickly preparing a meal of (favourite food) and (favourite drink), you sit at the table and contemplate your options. There was no way you could last the day with so little to do stuck at home. It only you were sick, then you could just sleep the entire day. Unfortunately, you had too much energy to do that.
