Random Book of Randomness

If Only

They entered the small, abandoned house, feeling the cold air hit their face. 'If only I hadn't wandered off. I wouldn't be here otherwise.'

If only.

They looked around the setting, taking in all the details. Black mould formed in the corners, dust spreading on the walls and floor. A shelf, which was positioned above a nearby fireplace, and which was covered in dust itself, had some relatively dusty books piled on it; They ran their finger over the top book, their fingertip practically turning grey from the powdery substance. They wiped it down on their jeans and their attention directed to the fireplace in front of them. They placed a shaking hand on the coals inside, which were still at a high temperature, causing their hand to burn up instantly. Blisters started to form on their palm, causing extreme pain. If only they had realised.

If only.

Trying to ignore the throbbing pain in their left hand, they made their way to the kitchen area. They tried to flick the light switch, however, it was stuck and unable to function. After a couple of attempts, they decided the best thing to do was to give up and move on, although the room was extremely dark and it was difficult to see anything. They tried to focus their eyes so they could have a vague idea of their surroundings, but then focused on a dark figure, sat in the corner of the room with it's back slumped. They had no idea what it was, and didn't exactly want to find out. They started to back away out of the room, not wanting to disturb them in any way, until they backed into a figure behind them, gripping their shoulders with it's cold, strong hands. They scrunched their eyes in fear as thoughts raced through their mind. 'If only I wasn't curious, it wouldn't be like this.'

If only.

If only you hadn't entered. You're lucky to be here. What if you didn't get out of there..?

So! 348 words! Jeebus Christ! So as I said before, it was just a piece of English homework that I was proud of and I decided to put it on here cause why not! :D And virtual hug to whoever gets the last line (it was a reference to something 😂) so Yep! And a lot of people could see why I don't know why I put it as horror... But... If you found it creepy or scary then... Well... That's a bonus! :D
