"I know what I'm doing." Alex says as he folds his hands together.
The rest of the men stare at him in unison. A lot of fuss have been going around ever since I got here. News travel fast. They know a human is among them.
"I don't think you understand how dangerous this is. Having a human living among us is forbidden. It had never happened before and sure ain't happening now." One of the men with a lot of beard say.
"As future king, I hope you do the right thing about this." Another guy say to Alex.
Alex leans back on his chair. "And what exactly is the 'right thing' to do?" He quoted them. "Killing her? Locking her away? Experimenting on her?" He raises one eyebrow waiting for a respond.
"Our people is afraid Alex!" The old guy from the end of the table shouts out.
"You don't think I'm trying to do the right thing here! Hurting her will be the opposite of the right thing. I explain why." Alex gets up from his chair. "Humans fear us. Which means if I follow by your orders than our people would have a more better reason to be afraid. Theres other humans looking for Serena. I won't let you fool do something stupid and put our people at risk." He turns around to walk out. "This meeting is over."
At the lab
"Are you okay Serena?" Joe asks me.
"Yeah...I'm fine." I give him a weak smile.
Stevie walks up to us. "So this is the projector 100." Stevie points at the machine next to him. It looks like a walking closet that was made to follow you around.
"What does it do?" I'm curious.
"I'm glad you ask." Stevie smiles than demonstrates. He types in a word into the little key word box attached to the machine. The machine makes couple of noises before opening up again and revealing a cheeseburger.
"Wow." I say as I walk over to grab the cheeseburger. I took a bite. "Thanks. I was hungry."
He rolls his eyes than snatches the cheeseburger off my hands. "I haven't even test out the food that comes out of it yet. For all I know it could be poison."
"Well, it definitely doesn't taste like poison and trust me I have tasted Lameer. I pretty sure that's the poison." I say as I make a upsetting face while I remember the taste of Lameer.
"You drink?" A familiar voice says behind me.
I turn around to see Alex standing right before me. "I did until I quit after I tried drinking here."
He smiles then walks much closer now to me. We are almost touching each other. Feeling each others vibrations coming out of our body's. I can hear his breathing. I never thought that could soothe me so much.
"What are you doing here? Don't you have a meeting?" Stevie asks Alex breaking my train of thought.
"I cut it short." Alex looks at me now.
"Lets get out of here." Alex smiles at me.
I look at Stevie and Joe before back at Alex. "To where?"
"Somewhere other than this place." Alex rolls his eyes then pick up a needle and throw it out of disgust.
"I'll have you know, this place is marvelous." Stevie defends his lab.
I smile because it reminded me so much of Ely. I miss Ely so much. It's funny how much Alex and Stevie reminds me of me and Ely.
We got into Alex mini truck. The weather is pretty amazing. It's not to hot and not to cold. And no humidity which is a good thing for us girls. Our hair need to be tamed as long as possible lol.
"So where are you taking me?" I looked at Alex as he moves the truck out of parking.
"Somewhere I never took anyone else at." He smiles then drives off.
After about 1 hour and a half basic conversation I managed to ask him more serious questions this time.
"What makes you guys different from us?" I ask him bitting my bottom lip out of a nervous and impatient reflex.
Still looking straight ahead. "We just genetically different."
"Don't pull a Stevie response on me." I laughed then looked at him with a serious face expression.
"I mean...I don't know how to respond to that question."
"Why not?" I asked more curious than before.
"I don't want to scare you." He takes a quick glance at me.
I smiled. "Try me." I need to know.
"Okay? Well, this isn't my original face." He stares at me and back to the road multiple times.
Tf does he mean! "What do you mean?"
"Think of us like Two-faced. But with emojis." His example sucks.
I raised one eyebrow to make sure he understands that I'm lost.
He sighs. He doesn't want to tell me. "One side is calm and normal well you're kind of normal. And the other side is our kind of normal."
I think I have an idea of what he's talking about now. "So you're telling me this isn't how you really look."
"It's part of who we are. I do look like this. But I also could change into something completely different than this face you see."
That's what makes them different from us. He has a face of an angel. And to think that face isn't the only face he has it's pretty scary. I can't even imagine what he looks like. His other face. To be honest, I'm not afraid. I mean should I be afraid? I don't have the answer to that question yet. However I feel like something bad could happen. Like a warning. I can't pay attention to my instinct. I'm going to ignored it. I want to ignored it. I just want to enjoy the moments I have with him.
