Hair is perfect. Clothes are perfect. Résumé is perfect. Daughter is-

"Running around naked with a comb stuck in her hair." Ally sighed as she grabbed Lux and picked her up walking to her bedroom. "Gotta get you dressed baby. I've got an important interview today." Ally fussed with her daughter's hair while explaining what would happen today.

"What's an interview mom?" Lux pulled on her princess panties while asking.

"It's a meeting. I'm going to meet some new people and we will talk." Ally picked out some black leggings and a shirt with kitties all over for her daughter to wear. "If they like what I say they will be my friends."

"Oh mommy they will be your friends I am sure." Lux pulled her shirt over her head and began looking for her baby nikes.

"I sure hope so," Ally half smiled as the anxiety set into her stomach. "You wanna get breakfast today?"

"McDonald's! McDonald's! McDonald's!" Lux screamed at the top of her lungs as Ally laughed.

"You're daddy is a millionaire. You've eaten caviar that costs 15k an ounce and you still go crazy for McDonald's. My kinda girl Lux." Ally hugged Lux and put a bow in her hair.

Her daughter's only request was McDonald's. Everything would be okay Ally thought. Lux wouldn't remember her designer clothing- she wouldn't even miss it. She'd probably only miss her friends from the county's most expensive private preschool. Everything could be replaced. The only thing Ally had to worry about was keeping custody of Lux and being able to buy her McDonald's and life would be fine.

Ally and Lux went through the drive thru and ordered their breakfasts before eating together in the parking lot. Ally must have been so consumed by her thoughts she didn't realize Lux was unhappy until she saw tears flowing down her cheeks.

"Baby, what's wrong?"

"Where's my daddy?" Lux asked and began crying. "I wanna see my dad."

"Oh baby, daddy is on a business trip honey." Ally thought about her soon to be ex husband and how he mistreated her, but she still didn't want to make her daughter think any less of her dad. She'd be old enough to figure it soon enough. "We can call him when he gets back okay baby."

"Okay mommy." Lux agreed and slurped her orange juice out of its cup.

"Alright, well we've gotta get you school so I can get to my interview." Ally spoke more to herself than her daughter.

"Okay," Lux responded as she took a bite out of her hash brown.

The drive to Oak Wood Preschool was quiet, and it kind of unnerved Ally realizing that the tuition of her daughter's preschool was probably more than her starting salary would be when she got hired. Who knew if her soon-to-be ex husband would continue to pay the cost of her education. Who knew if he would be kind and choose not to punish their daughter for the supposed sins of her mother. Ally dropped off Lux as per usual, and chose not to stick around and try to socialize with the other mothers. A few gave her a strange looks, but she chose to ignore them and move on.

The ring on her finger really started to bother Ally on the way to her interview. she took it off, hoping to appear younger than she was. She also didn't want a potential employer to think she was tied down to the ball and chain of family life when she was about to all alone with her daughter. It was also too flashy. ten giant carats of a basically perfect Tiffany&Co ring was too much. Maybe she'd sell it, or maybe she'd have to give it back in the court proceedings.

Ally let go of a deep breath and prayed a silent prayer. The building appeared to be a classic corporate structure. She walked in all false bravado and smiled at the receptionist. The receptionist's smile soon faded and Ally instantly knew something had gone awry.

"I am sorry Ally. It appears that I scheduled you for an interview today and that position has already been filled. I gave you the wrong date for the interview. We had so many positions to fill that I must have mixed up the dates and I scheduled you for today instead of yesterday. My apologies." The receptionist looked Ally all sad and filled with concerned.

"Are there any other positions?" Ally asked meekly, "I'm getting divorced and I literally need a job to keep custody of my daughter."

"Look I have a friend that works in another corporate environment," She pulled a card out of her desk, "They are growing rapidly, and need all the good employees they can get. Go first thing in the morning and I'll tell my contact over there that you are perfect for them and they will hire you after a short interview."

"Thank you so much. You don't know how much this means for me." Ally thanked the receptionist before leaving with the business card in her hand.
