Have you ever gotten the feeling you've forgotten something? It happens
a lot, even when you know you haven't. Its worse when its a memory. When you remember it, you feel like it had just happened. This happened to me a few weeks ago. As I was walking around town, I saw a girl walking down the opposite side of the street. She looked almost identical to my old best friend from years ago. I hadn't seen her forever. A sudden memory of our last day together flashed in my mind. In my memory I was at the park, we had always gone there together. I was sitting against the old cedar tree. My best friend sitting across from me. We were talking like we did everyday, when suddenly her smile turned into a look of sadness. I asked her what was wrong, she let out a sigh that sounded like she had been holdong her breath.
"Listen, I have something to tell you. Its really important." She said.
"Sure, what's up?" I said as I sat upright curious as to what she had to say.
"I'm moving today, I leave in a few hours actually. I'll be moving across the country. I'll make sure we talk at least once a week."
"Why do you have you move?"
"My parents had a job opportunity that they couldn't pass up. I should probably go. We'll be leaving soon."
She stood up not allowing me to respond. Pulling me into a big bear hug. When we pulled away her eyes were watery.
"I'll miss you so much. Please don't change while I'm gone. Bye." We hug again not wanting to let go.
"Bye, I'll miss you call me as soon as you can." I shouted after her.
"I will don't worry. We'll talk all the time." She then left on the trail to her house.
That was the last thing she ever said to me. She never called. She never visited. It was like I was cut out of her life.
Its been 4 years since she moved. How's she doing? I dont know. What's her life like now a days? I don't know that either. I hurts to think about but I know that I still have the memories and conversations locked in my brain. Only to appear when I least expect it.
