*Around 7 years ago*
"Evelyn it's time to wake up." I groaned as my mom whispered softly. I slowly started pushing myself farther under my blankets, not wanting to be taken from their warmth. I heard a large sigh as footsteps started to retreat out of the doorway. I smiled softly to myself thinking that I was in the clear.
"Cannonball!" I snapped my eyes open to see my dad sprinting towards me with a grin on his face. He leaped up onto the bed and landed right next to me. "Happy birthday princess." He grinned. Oh yeah. I can't believe I forgot my own birthday!
"Can you make me chocolate chip pancakes?" I grinned up at him. Everybody knows that the best birthday breakfast is chocolate chip pancakes.
"Anything for my special girl." My dad smiled at me as he kissed me on the cheek. I watched my dad stand himself up so he could go to the kitchen. At the same time my mom walked into the room laughing to herself.
"Your father is such a dork." She laughed. "Word of advice for the birthday girl. When and if you get married someday, make sure you pick a partner who doesn't seem like a child."
"I heard that Ann!" I heard my dad shout from the kitchen. My mom just shook her head and looked at me.
"Now go get dressed. Your father and I have a special surprise for you for your 10th birthday." I let a huge grin slip onto my face as I jumped from my bed. I ran over to my dresser and started digging around for my favorite shirt. I soon found my light blue t-shirt and threw it towards my bed. I then grabbed out a pair of jeans and quickly changed. As I walked out of my bedroom, the delicious smell of pancakes wrapped around me. My stomach let out a loud grumble as I entered the kitchen.
"Woah there tiger" My dad chuckled. "Don't go attacking somebody before breakfast is ready." I opened my mouth to make a growling noise, but instead all that came out was a mix between a growl and a yawn.
"Such a terrifying beast." My mom laughed as she sipped her coffee.
"Alright ladies, breakfast is served." My dad said as he set out a heaping plate of pancakes on the kitchen table. I quickly sat down grabbing two pancakes for my plate. After we all finished eating my mom and dad took the plated to begin loading the dishwasher.
"So what's the surprise?" I questioned. My parents looked at each other.
"Well if we told you it wouldn't be a surprise now would it." My dad said. I guess he has a point but I really wanted to know.
"Alright guys let's get in the car. It's time to move out." My mom called from the hallway.
"Sir yes sir!" My father responded giving her a mock solute. This caused me to giggle as my mom rolled her eyes. We all got into the car, and my dad began to drive towards our destination. I could feel my eyes starting to close, but I tried to stay awake not wanting to miss anything.
"Take a nap Eve." My mom told me. "We will wake you up when we arrive." I softly yawned in response as I drifted into a peaceful slumber.
I woke up a little while later to see a large sign reading "Darkstone Training Academy for Young Hunters". I looked up at my parents with eyes full of excitement and confusion. "What are we doing here. Don't I have to be 12 to begin training?" I questioned. It was my goal in life to be a hunter just like my parents. They were the highest ranked in the world, and I hoped that one day I could be as skilled as them. My dad pulled the car over and turned to look at me.
"Well we know how badly you want to attend this school, so we got some permission to come here and do something a little special." My dad smiled softly. My mom climbed out of the car to get something from the trunk. "Okay well here is the thing." He started. "I forgot to call to ask for permission, but your mother thinks I did. But who cares. I mean we are the number one ranked hunters in the world so it shouldn't really matter." I just look at him and started laughing. I wasn't even surprised. I got out of the car and saw my mom holding a sapling in her hands.
