Vis Vitae
Somehow I knew that he was not lying. Somehow I knew that he held the key to what was, what still is, for that matter, happening to me.
A single tear drop escapes my violet eyes, a tear of joy.
After all of these years, after all the strange things that have happened to me I'm finally going to learn the truth. The truth about what I am. A smile escapes my lips.
"Tell me" My voice comes out soft, almost a whisper barely audible.
How strange, standing here, in this forest with a man I have never met. And yet, somehow I feel as if he is the answer to my prayers. With all the strange things that have happened to me today, a stranger knowing the truth is the least of my worries. Or the least wacked.
Still gripping my arm in his strong hand he leads me over to the banks of the pool.
We both sit down on some cool rocks by the waters edge.
Neither of us say a word, we just stare into the depths of the pool. The water is calm and still. The only movement coming from the fall of the water as it flows into the pool.
After a few minutes he calmly says "I cannot tell you"
"But you -" I start to whine.
He clasps his free hand to his lips in an shushing gesture. Arrogant much ? Cutting off my words."I cannot tell you, But I can show you"
Guiding my hand to the pool I wonder what he is doing. As soon as my fingertips touch the waters surface a jolt of energy ripples through me. The connection of the water against my skin changes me. It feels almost as if something is begging to waken inside of me. I gasp as this energy builds up inside me. Then seemingly of it's own accord it slips through my body and leaves through my fingertips.
It seems as if some part of me that has always been missing is now there. An empty space now occupied.
My fingertips send ripples through the water, they continue to grow and grow as they spread around the pool. Each time one fades another appears in it's place. My fingers don't move and yet the ripples continue.
Lifting my fingers out the water I notice that they are still dry. They don't appear as if they have been in the water at all. How can this be?
Glancing at the water I notice that the ripples continue, even though there is nothing to create them.A continuing pulse on the water's surface. What the jiminy crickets I exclaim in my mind.
"How is this happening ?" I stutter aloud, slightly freaked out from all this weirdness.
"It is the aqua vitae"
"Aqua vitty?" I ask completely confused. Is he just making up some random words to sound intelligent or something?
My eyes still on the waters surface watching the continuing ripples, appear out of nothing.
"Aqua vitae. It is Latin for the Water of Life. You are The Water of Life - "
"The water of what now. Instead of speaking some long lost language from way back when" I wave my hands in a dismissive manner "Why don't you just start making some sense"
Chuckling he runs a hand through his sandy blonde hair, grazing his fingers down his ponytail. PONYTAIL ! Seriously. What modern day dude wears a ponytail ?
" If your mouth would stop interrupting me I might be able to, How did you put it" Looks thoughtful for a moment "Make some sense" he adds.
I place my hands on my hips, a stern look crosses my face "This is not funny ! I have just almost killed my Aunt, had a headache from hell" Glancing at the water " And now the water wont stop rippling for no reason! Will you just tell me!" I almost screech the last few words, as the panic about the situation reaches my breaking point.
