MESSAGES FROM THE FUTURE

I didn't even have a dime in my pocket, so there was no way I could take the body I was in home. Because of my little road trip, she and I would be stranded here tonight.

I had been banished from my home by my own mother, yet I still couldn't leave my family alone. I had to keep tabs on them, whether they wanted me to or not. How, you ask? Well by staking out in my neighbor's bushes and spying on them.

Call me a creep, but I honestly wasn't. My reasoning was kinda like "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around, does it make a sound?" But instead its "if a creep creeps on somebody and nobody knows they're creeping, are they still a creep?"

For many hours, nothing much happened. Only when Dad came back home did I notice any sort of commotion. I heard my parents arguing and I could only wonder if they were talking about me, not Imposter Sadie, but me.

Well never mind them, I still had Nell's family to worry about. There was actually nothing much to see from them either, that is until the pizza guy showed up. Oh man, oh man, oh man. What I wouldn't have given at that moment for a slice of sausage supreme. My stomach growled at the sheer sight of it. And I couldn't just look at pizza, I had to eat it.

Mind you, I couldn't just knock on Nell's door and be like "Hey, I see you got a pizza delivered. Could I have a slice? Oh, who am I? I'm the girl your daughter said had been harassing her today."

If I was going to eat tonight, I needed to find another way.

Here's a fact: the back door of Nell's house was broken. Here's another fact: I (accidentally) broke into her house once before, and surely I was capable of doing it again.

I crawled out from the bushes I was hiding in to Nell's backyard. The sky was dark and the sun had set ages ago. A few angry storm clouds covered the moon. Wow, it looks like Newt Adler was right and it is going to be a rainy weekend.

While kneeling on the back steps, I peered my head in through the door. The coast was clear. With caution, I tiptoed inside and quietly shut the door behind me. The sounds of the television filled the room, signaling that everyone must have been in the living room.

I stealthily crawled into the kitchen on my hands and knees. My eyes were on the prize: the pizza box. As soon as I reached the kitchen island the box was on top of, I tore it open, snatching a large slice and a napkin.

I hadn't even taken a bite when my plan started to crumble.

"Who are you?" a tiny voice asked me.

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Sitting on the kitchen floor was Nell's little sister, the source of the voice.

"I'm a figment of your imagination?" I whispered.

Nell's sister, Jocelyn, tilted her head to the side like a dog. "What?" she mumbled back.

"I'm not real," I said.

She grinned. "I like you," she told me. "You're funny."

"Thanks, Joss," I told her and patted her on her tiny head.

"How do you know my name?" she asked, her eyes bugging out.

"I'm you from the future."

"Really? Why are you here?"

"Are you asking why I'm in your kitchen eating pizza or why I'm in this year?"

Jocelyn put her finger to her lips. "I don't know," she mumbled, "I guess why you're in this year."

I smirked. "I've come to give you an important message."

"What is it?"

"Uh, your sister, Nell, needs to make up with her friend, Sadie. Go tell her that."

She frowned. "Why don't you tell her that?"

I sighed and smacked my hand to my face. "Look kid, I'm you from the future, I'm not Nell. And uh, your relationship in the future needs repairing too. Talking her into making up with Sadie will be a great bonding opportunity for you two."

Jocelyn gasped. "What happens with me and Nell?"

As I was about to say something somewhat cheeky and witty to her, I stopped myself. With each passing second, I was risking my ass more and more. Talking with Joss had been fun, but I already got what I needed, pizza. Now was the time to go.

"Wait twenty years and you'll find out."

And with that out of my mouth, I made my stealthy journey to the back door. I imagined that I was a ninja, while in reality I was just some jerk crawling on the floor with a slice of pizza in my mouth.

Hey, my life wasn't an action movie, but I thought I did pretty good. I mean, I was successful in stealing a piece of pizza, I should break into people's homes more often!

I enjoyed the rest of my slice back in the safety of the bushes. I had spent so much time there that day, that it started to feel like a second home. A home away from home if you will. It wasn't the most comfortable, but it was the perfect location for stalking my and Nell's family, and that was all that mattered. Hmmm, maybe I was cut out for the hermit lifestyle.

Still, I felt godawful that the body I was in wouldn't have the pleasure of waking in her own bed tomorrow morning. What would I do if I suddenly woke up in some bushes? Frankly, I wouldn't have a big reaction, my new life had been filled with crazy scenarios for me to wake up in. Yet, the body I was in wasn't accustomed to that type of life and she needed my help.

I wished I had a pen. If I had one, I could've written her a note that explained what was going on. Man, I was so stupid! How could I just let myself abandon this body like this? For all I knew, she would never get back home.
