Zeus was the youngest son of Kronos and Rhea. His mother hid him from his father and that is why he was raised up in a temple in his childhood. When he grew up, he gave Kronos a drugged drink which made Kronos barf up his other brothers and sisters. Zeus then freed the Cyclopes and Hundred Handed Ones from Tartarus. Since they were good at making weapons, they made a weapon for Zeus. They then named it "The Lighting Bolt. All the Gods then went to a ten year war with the Titans. They eventually won this war. Later on Zeus married his sister Hera (yes, I know..... It sounds strange but there is nothing you can do about it). Ares and Hephaestus were their sons. Many other Gods are also the children of Zeus, for example Athena, Dionysus, Apollo and Artemis, but their mothers were other than Hera. After defeating the Titans, the Gods built a palace on a mountain called mount Olympus and named it (no prizes for guessing it) "Mount Olympus". Zeus became the King of this place and also the King of the other Gods. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull and oak.
Roman equivalent: Jupiter
