Poseidon is the second youngest son of Kronos and Rhea. He helped Zeus in defeating the Titans. Just like Zeus got his lightening bolt, Poseidon got a Trident during the Titan war. After defeating the Titans be became the God of Seas and Oceans (basically, he is the God of Water). He then built a palace under the ocean. Apart from water, he was also the God of earthquakes and horses. He married Amphitrite, one of the granddaughters of the Titan Oceanus. Their son was Tritron. He was a half human and half fish. Poseidon competed with Athena for becoming the patron God/Goddess of Athens. Both of them was supposed to give a gift to the city and the one who gave the best gift was to be selected. Poseidon gave Athens a spring of water while Athena gave them an olive tree. Athena however won this and became the city's patron Goddess. His symbols are the Trident, horse, fish, dolphin and bull.
