"So, Koda. What exactly do you do? Aleks never specified." Laura asked me.
"I basically do what Aleks does. I like to make people happy while doing what makes me happy." I told them. John gave a friendly smile while Laura, I really don't think she likes me very much.
"Oh, I see." Laura said with an eye roll. "I was hoping Aleks would find someone who actually has a good, reliable job instead of doing something that could just crash and burn." She said with an eyeroll. I saw Aleks wince out of the corner of my eye. I don't think I like her very much either.
"Sorry about her. She never has approved of YouTube." I just nodded my head.
"Before I actually got into YouTube though I was an artist, well I still am, I just don't really focus on it that much anymore. People are more important to me than art." I explained and they both nodded.
"Really? Can we see some of your artwork?" John asked and I was glad he did. Just so I could get out of this situation. It was awkward.
"Of course!" I said as pulled out my phone and showed them some photos of some work I did back in Pennsylvania. Some of them were graffiti pieces that I was really proud of. Don't worry, I was paid. "Don't worry. I'm a professional, I was paid to do these at a skate park." I told them when they gave me a quizzical look. They looked relieved that I wasn't some sort of criminal.
I went on showing them some of my greatest pieces and we talked throughout the day. At one time though, John took Laura out to talk to her because, I suspect, she was acting a little mean towards me. After they came back though, she was more civil and nicer.
The past few days, John and Laura showed us around and I met some more of Aleks's family. The only people left were actually his cousin and her groom. I couldn't wait! That was tomorrow though, and right now we were going out to eat with a few of Aleks's aunts and uncles, plus his parents of course. All of the people that didn't need to be at the rehearsal dinner.
We had just ordered our food and Laura decided she needed to speak up about something.
"So, Koda. I was looking at some of your videos on YouTube and I saw one that struck out to me." Oh, god. I hope it wasn't the one where I showed/told everyone about my scars. I instantly looked to Aleks, who was sitting across from me. I wish he was right next to me instead of Laura. "It was the one where you showed your scars, I believe." My face probably instantly paled and I looked down. I know it shouldn't bother me but I can't help it. Especially since it's Aleks's family! They might think less of me!
"Laura." John said but Laura shrugged it off. I'm guessing he saw it too. Who says she didn't forward it to everyone in the whole family!
"Oh shush, John. Let me finish." Laura said and John quickly gave me an apologetic look. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for being so harsh to you when you first came." She said in a sincere, apologetic tone which completely caught me off guard. I looked up to Aleks and he looked surprised too.
"What?" I asked, shocked.
"You heard me, I'm sorry Koda." She said as she put her hand on my shoulder. There's a part of me that thinks that she is doing this to look better infront of her family and another part of me that thinks it's all true, that she really is sincere.
"Oh," was all I could say, because I never knew what to say when someone apologized to me about. "I don't want your pity though, it's fine. I got through it." I told her with a smile.
I'm glad we got this all behind us. Soon, our food came and we talked about when Aleks was a child, no matter how much he tried to shut them up, they kept talking and to be honest, it was quite funny how hilarious it all was.
