Chapter 4 – Slo-mo-tion
I smirked as I watched my family, all of us backstage at the final Australian show. My sisters were really getting into it…but my mum was wearing ear-muffs to cancel out some of the noise as she called it. She liked Marilyn…just not his music.
I turned and smiled a little at Twiggy, shaking my head as he winked at me. I sighed sadly as I looked at the birthday messages in my phone…it would appear that with the tour on that Marilyn forgot today was my birthday. That’s okay though, I got to have my family with me today.
It was at this point that I noticed that the music had stopped.
“Today, is a very special day!” Marilyn yelled into the microphone. “Firstly, coz we’re all here together!” The crowd cheered loudly. “But secondly, and most importantly…today is special because…today…is Shannon’s birthday!” The crowd cheered again. “Now, she probably thought I forgot…but I haven’t honey.” He turned to look at me. “Come on out here…” I smiled, shaking my head as I stood and made my way out onto the stage to him; waving at the screaming crowd as I walked. “Hey baby.” Marilyn grinned down at me.
“Hey sexy.” I smirked and laughed nervously. “What are you doing?”
“On three I want you all to yell happy birthday as loud as you can!” Marilyn pointed to the crowd. “One…two…three!”
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” the crowd screamed in unison as I laughed and went bright red.
I knocked his microphone and called out to them all. “Thankyou!”I handed him back the microphone. “Thankyou, Brian…” I smiled up at him shyly. “Do I get a kiss?”
“Always.” Marilyn smiled as he pulled me into his arms. His lips crashed down against mine, one arm holding me firmly to him as his other hand tangled itself in my hair. I could hear people laughing and cheering, but I didn’t care…I was kissing the man I loved, and that was all that mattered.

I smiled as my mum and I lay Abigail down to sleep in her and my sisters’ hotel room. We’re leaving tomorrow for America and mum and my sisters are going back to Wellington.
As the door closed silently, my mum turned and hugged me tightly. “I’m so proud of you.” She smiled as she pulled out of the hug. We’re going to miss you so much…”
“I know mum, we’re going to try and visit more often.” I promised with a matching smile. “We’ll need to…how else will you see your granddaughter?” I winked and she shook her head, laughing quietly.
“That will take some getting used to.” She chuckled as we made our way back to Twiggy’s room where everyone had kind of converged.
“Hey…” I heard Marilyn murmur as my mum and I walked into the room, a pair of arms ensnaring my waist and pulling me back against him.
“Hey.” I smiled and turned in his arms to kiss him sweetly.
“You two look like you need a rest.” Mum said as she rubbed my arm in that way all mothers do when they see their child is exhausted, no matter how old they get.
“Yeah, I might take her back to the room for a lie down.” Marilyn smiled sincerely, but there was mischief in his eyes.
“Uh huh.” Twiggy chuckled and nudged my sister Ashley, making her laugh quietly too.
“In that case,” my mum smirked at me and I blushed. “I’ll go sit with Abigail.” And she left quickly.
I looked at Ash and Jess, contemplating whether it was safe to leave them with the band. “Well…you’re both too loud to go sit with mum and just read like she does…” I looked at Twiggy. “Keep them out of mischief…please.” I held my hands together as if in prayer as I pleaded with him.
