The two supernaturals stared with slight smiles on their faces as Aura stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her. They were silent for a moment, listening to the almost unheard woosh of air.
“That wasn’t her twin’s cinematic records, was it?” Sebastian asked, not bothering to glance at the other.
“No. I had to check hers and pull some tricks from my sleeve to get it to look like it was from his point of view.” Kurai glanced at the other from the corner of his eyes, narrowing them. “And while I was doing so, I found something quite… interesting.”
Sebastian stiffened at those words, though his face was still impassive. “What might that be?”
Kurai bitterly chuckled. “Don’t lie to me. You had history with her.”
“By ‘her’, who do you mean?” Sebastian asked, turning to the other. Kurai bit back a scowl.
“Stop it, Michealis. I’ve already seen the truth. There’s no point in lying to me.” Kurai snapped, crossing his arms. “Why didn’t you tell her? You already had her in your grasp. What, you thought that you could have a fresh beginning with her? Where she didn’t feel so anxious at the thought of getting caught with you?”
“I just chose what was best for the both of us.” Sebastian answered, glaring at the other. “She hated the feeling of anxiety. And it was starting to affect her health. I had to do something.”
“Fine, I can accept that excuse. What I don’t accept is the fact that you left her after that. Her village was burnt to the ground—she could’ve gotten killed. If you were there, nothing like that would’ve happened.” Kurai ran a hand through his hair, forcing himself to calm down.
“I was there.” Kurai snapped his head to the demon, who stared at him. “I was there, making sure that the demoness didn’t hurt her. I was there, watching as she desperately tried to look for her brothers. I was there when that reaper erased the memories of her past and took her back with her. I was there the whole time."
"If you were there, then why didn't you save her brother? She would still be happy if you've saved him!"
"I could not interfere. He was contracted. And even if I could, I would have not done so."
"And why is that?"
"I did not care for anybody else but her. They are not my responsibility."
Kurai was speechless. He sighed in frustration and took off his glasses, running a hand through his hair. "Tell her that I had to go somewhere and I'll be back later." Not bothering to wait for a reply, he opened the window and jumped out, the sound of chains hitting each other growing fainter.
Sebastian sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He dug in to his pocket and took out a small box. He bitterly chuckled and returned it.
"I have things to take care of." He murmured under his breath as he stepped out of the room, silently closing the door behind him.
