9 years old
Nathan Ackerman stood on the curb of his street waiting for the bus. His mom stood with him.
He wore his favorite pizza dinosaur shirt and his old black sneakers.
The bus stopped in front of them both.
"They grow up so fast." His mother muttered.
"Bye mom."
He walked up the familiar steps and said his familiar good morning.
He walked past the empty seat next to his friend Tony.
Lilian's head rested against the window and a book was in her hands. "Move your book bag."
Lilian took a look at Nathan, shrugged, and moved her book bag. Nathan sat.
She took a notebook out of her bag. "Did you do the summer math homework?"
"No duh."
"I didn't understand one of the problems." She took out a sheet of paper. "Explain it."
Nathan read the paper, took a pencil out of his bag, and began explaining.
"So you line up the numbers and...."
