Lilian Burt snuggled into her covers and sneezed. She was sick. Sick of being sick that is.
Suddenly she heard a knock on her door.
"Who is it?" She called.
"Spider-man."
Lilian smirked. "Please don't come in."
"Fine. It's actually Peeta from the Hunger Games."
This time, Lilian laughed. He knew she had a fictional crush on him. But of course not as much as a crush on him.
"Wrong answer!"
The voice outside the door sighed and then chuckled. "It's just Nathan."
Lilian smiled. "Just Nathan?"
"Just Nathan." He confirmed.
"I love just Nathan more than Spider-man and Peeta."
The door opened and a tall boy with ruffled black hair and green eyes stood, a big toothy grin on his face.
Lilian sneezed again into her covers.
"Aw my poor lily!" Nathan cried. He closed the door and pulled a chair next to Lilian's bed. "My poor lily is sick." He made a little pouty face and kissed Lilian on the forehead.
"Don't kiss me."
Nathan frowned. "Why?"
"I don't want you to get sick too."
Nathan laughed. "I would never get sick of my lily." Then his face grew serious. Lilian thought it was cute how his eyebrows got scrunched together and his mouth formed a thin line. His green eyes were like a wild forest to look into. "Lilian, you should get some sleep. I want you to feel better."
Lilian bit her lip. "I um tried that..." She said while nodding towards the phone and books next to her bed.
Nathan shook his head, stroking Lilian's hair. "Then how will you ever feel better?"
"Tell me a story. You always seem to know the perfect story."
"Story time with Nathan?"
Lilian nodded. "Story time with Nathan." She confirmed.
Nathan was silent for a moment before he began. "Once upon a time - no once upon a kingdom, there was a beautiful princess. Her father was the king of the kingdom of catfish. It was a rather important kingdom."
Lilian stared at Nathan in disbelief. "Catfish?"
"Catfish."
"Oookk... You may proceed."
"But the king felt his catfish kingdom wasn't enough. He wanted another kingdom, preferably the sock kingdom."
"The soc-" Nathan put a finger on Lilian's lips.
"Shhhh dear child. Do not question my creativity."
Lilian laughed and nodded.
"So the king of the catfish kingdom decided to marry off his daughter to the prince of the sock kingdom. Now the daughter had many admirers. Many of the princes from the other kingdoms had fallen for her. But honestly, the king really thought he didn't need the twig kingdom." Nathan stopped as if he was looking for inspiration. Then he began again. "But the princess did not want to marry the prince of the sock kingdom. She didn't like any of the princes who admired her. But there was one person. It was a servant in her kingdom who had admired the princess from afar. He knew the king would never approve. So he came up with a plan."
Lilian coughed into her covers. She blushed. "Sorry.."
Nathan chuckled and kissed Lilian on the forehead again. "The servant boy went up to the king and said he wanted to marry his daughter. The king only laughed and asked if you marry my daughter, what will she get from a lowly servant like you? The servant boy only laughed. What would you get from a prince of socks? Being able to keep your catfish warm? The king stroked his chin. Very well tell me what you have for me- I mean my daughter. So the servant boy began explaining."
Nathan took a deep breath before beginning again.
"He said I have love to give to your daughter. The other princes only know your daughter is rich and beautiful. But however I've seen your daughter sing, dance, laugh. I know who she is. I didn't fall in love with your daughter for the money. Her bright personality is worth more than a million pieces of gold and silver. And I love your daughter. My love is worth more than socks, twigs, or even catfish. With my love, your daughter would be happy. Her happiness will turn into genuine love for everything in the world. And happiness has no price. It's price-less, therefore making it the most expensive thing there is in the world. Also, my love will last longer than any sock or twig. It will last forever."
"N-Nathan. What did you just tell me?"
"Shhh I'm not done yet."
"Ok."
"The king nodded approvingly. You seem to be giving a lot. Very well, I will hand my daughter to you. But she has to love you. And secretly the princess had heard the conversation and she had fallen in love with the servant. Together they got married. Although it wasn't a happily ever after because they had some problems, everything the servant had said was true. The sock kingdom had been conquered by the barefoot kingdom. And the princess was happy making her heart loving her prince and everyone in their kingdom. The end."
Lilian smiled. "Is this story related to us?"
"Guess which parts are."
"The part about other princes falling for the princess, the servant falling for the princess, and the princess falling for the servant."
Nathan chuckled. "One more."
"What?"
Nathan flashed a toothy grin and blushed.
"The part where the servant and princess get married."
