Chapter 13:

Stepping out of the cool air-conditioned airport a rush of hot air greeted me; I took a long deep breath of the humid air. I’d changed into my denim shorts and had removed my jacket as soon as I stepped off the plane where the lady had announced it was 39°c outside, meaning it was quite hot. Definitely a change from the cold weather back in London, I felt that tightening in my chest and I pushed those thoughts to the back of my head. I stood out the front of the airport before catching the shuttle bus to the long term parking where I had left my car. It took me about 15 minutes to actually find my car once I’d gotten off at section D where it was parked. I finally found my car and locked the suitcases into the back before getting into the driver’s seat. The car was hot and the air was heavy with the humidity and from sitting in the sun for weeks on end. I opened the windows a crack to let the air out before winding them up and blasting my air-conditioning.

The drive from Brisbane to the Gold Coast took about an hour and a half, music blared from my speakers as I listened to my iPod. When I finally pulled into the apartment lot I parked my car and took a deep breath, Ruby would be demanding to know what happened and I knew I could trust her but I didn’t feel like having another breakdown like I did on the plane. I was now officially half way across the world from them, I don’t know whether it was the thought of them being so far away or the thought of having to relay the story of me and Harry’s breakup that made my eyes start to sting and the lump lodging itself in my throat. I unlocked the trunk/boot of the car and hauled my suitcases out and slung my handbag over my shoulder, and looked up at our apartment.

My apartment was built on the end of 2 other apartments on one massive block. Our apartments were good quality and quite expensive, Ruby’s parents were loaded and they bought it for Ruby on her 18th birthday which was a few months ago. The apartment was two story building with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and toilets along with an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen. There is even a small section of backyard fenced off for each apartment which is where my puppy lives.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts before shoving my key into the lock and opening the door cautiously, there was a scream from the lounge which was at the end of the entry way and Ruby came hurling towards me.

“Lexi!!!!!!” She squealed hugging me so tight I could hardly breathe.

“Hey Ruby” I managed to choke out as she let go.

“Oopsies! Oh my god I can’t believe you’re home! Tell me everything” She demanded.

“Can I please just get rid of these suitcases? They’re killing me” I protested and she nodded and grabbed one from my hand and we both pulled them upstairs somehow even though they were incredibly heavy. I opened my door to my room and I smiled as the familiar scent of Vanilla washed over me, everything was still where I left it thank god! (Picture of Lexi's room on the side >>>)  I dumped my suitcases and we returned downstairs where we sat down on the creamy couches.

“I missed you so much!” Ruby admitted as she made us a cup of coffee.

“I missed you too Rubz” I smiled and she grinned her bright blue eyes lighting up.

“Oh by the way I have something for you” I added with a smirk, I reached into my handbag and pulled out a little package that Louis had wrapped for her and I handed it to her once she’d returned to the lounge and placed our coffees on the glass coffee table. She studied it curiously and she started opening it.

“Be careful! Louis would be very upset it you runined his handwork” I giggled and her face dropped into one of surprise.

“EEEEP!!!! HE TOUCHED THIS PAPER!” She squealed kissing the paper. I giggled as she carefully finished unwrapping the paper.
