Chapter 14

Chapter 14:

I woke to the sound of my alarm’s shrill beeping, slamming my hand down on the electronic device hoping it would shut up. The beeping stopped and I groaned rubbing my eyes, the glowing digits on the clock read 7:00. Sighing I managed to drag myself out of my heavenly comfortable bed and into the bathroom across the hallway. Slowly removing my pyjamas is stepped into the warm water and let it wake my body. I washed my long hair and scrubbed my body over with strawberry smelling body-wash. After I was finished I dried off and kept the towel wrapped securely around my torso as I returned to my room where I picked out my underwear and bra and then my outfit for the day.

 I decided on my denim shorts, a loose white t-shirt which faded into black as it progress towards the hem and some black strappy shoes. Grabbing a spare hair-tie I knotted the top at the side so it rose to just above my belly button. I knew if I didn’t do something with my hair it would go frizzy in the heat so I brushed it out and plaited it down the side teasing out a few strands to frame my face. I apply some mascara and lip-gloss and that was my marvellous morning routine. I’d gotten the job 3 weeks after returning from the UK and it was now my second week on the job and I loved it, I was one of 4 stylists for ‘POP-star’ magazine which is a really well known magazine and I get a decent pay too! The only down side is I usually have to get up early since we work from 8:30am until around 2pm which is pretty good.

Once downstairs I made myself a bowl of cereal and ate it at the kitchen bench sipping a steaming cup of coffee. I mulled over my plans for today and then got excited at the thought of my 18th birthday in a month.

“Good Morning!” Ruby chirped as she pranced down the stairs.

“Morning to you too” I smiled and she skipped over to the kettle and made herself a cup of herbal tea.

“What’d on the agenda today?” I asked in between a mouthful of muesli.

“Eh… Probably go hang out at the beach or something like that” She shrugged and I rolled my eyes.

“Don’t you have work?”

“Yeah but it starts at 7 tonight since I’m doing a function” She explained dunking the tea-bag into the cup of boiling water. I nodded and finished off my breakfast rinsing the dishes in the sink before placing them in the dishwasher.

“So we better start planning your 18th” She announced sitting down at the bench drinking her tea as I picking up my phone checking for any new texts.

“Yeah I guess” I agreed. I watched as her face lit up and I held in a laugh. She always got so excited about planning parties, especially big ones!

“Oh my gosh! Yay!” She cheered and I snickered at her reaction.

“Well you continue your little dance, but I’ve got to go to work” I smiled picking up my handbag which contained my purse, phone and car keys along with the other essentials.

“Bye” She yelled as I opened the front door the hot air hitting my face.

“Bye, I’ll see you this afternoon”  I waved over my shoulder as I closed the door behind me and headed over to my car.

When I got to work after the 15 minute drive I was given a list of things to do which was a mile long. I was flat out for the rest of the day as I styled, designed and fixed up outfits for the models and people in the photo-shoots. My co-worked Janet was 35 and she had a great sense when it came to clothes and styling, she even had her own clothing line! I finally finished work at 2 and raced home desperate to get to the beach so I could cool off in the hot 42°c heat which was normal around here in summer. The only bad thing about summer would have to be all the arrogant tourists who come to the Gold cast since it’s got the theme parks and golden beaches which they seemed to clog up. Thankfully the local like myself and Ruby know where private beaches are was so we can escape all the old men in speedos and burnt to a crisp sun bathers and screaming children.
