Anna’s POV

Even though I knew the words were coming, they still hit me like a brick wall. I closed my eyes and tried to even my breathing, but I couldn’t stop the tears from leaking through.

“I’m so sorry Anna” Sara said, sounding more than sincere “I am so sorry”

I didn’t say anything to her, without a word I turned around and found my way out of the maze of books.

Eventually I found the big door. I had to squint as I walked into the sunlight, as I shielded my eyes from the sun I could see Matt leaning against the car. He wore a worried expression on his face, which became even more worried when he saw me crying.

“What happened?” He demanded, walking up to me and grabbing my arms gently “Anna what happened?”

I wanted to tell him that he was right; I wanted to tell him that I was sorry. But I couldn’t seem to grip onto any words at all, too many tears were falling. Instead, I just fell into his arms and cried.

Matt seemed to understand, because he wrapped his arms tightly around me and held me as I sobbed.

He didn’t say anything; he just made soft shushing noises and gently rocked me back and forth. It wasn’t until I finally gained control that I looked up at him, blurry eyed and breathless.

“I’m sorry” I finally said “That I didn’t believe you”

Matt smiled softly and gently touched my face.

“You had every right not to believe me” He said “I’m just glad that now you know”

He pulled me close again and I just took comfort in holding him. He was so solid and sure, he was home.

When we finally got back into the car neither of us said anything. We didn’t need to; I don’t think we wanted to. Right now it was just comforting being in each other’s presence, with nothing painful or deceptive between us. As were drove it started to rain, actually rain was an understatement, on the radio they were putting out warnings for flash floods. Fear ceased me; we hadn’t even been ten minutes outside of Houston. It had been nice and sunny when we got here, what the hell happened?

The rain became so bad that we could hardly see the road. To make matters worse hail was starting to fall to. I’m anxiety was reaching its high.

“Matt” I said uneasily, shrinking into the seat of the car “I don’t like this”

“Neither do I” Matt said “I’m going to turn around, we’re going back to Houston”

I didn’t know where on earth we would go in Houston but my questions were answered when he pulled up in front of a little motel on the outskirts of town. It wasn’t overly fancy but it looked clean. Matt handed me his credit card when we pulled up to the door.

“You will attract little attention” He told me “Get a room, nothing that will make them think there are two of us. If they recognize you they will start making calls and it will get a little tricky for us to get out of here okay?”

I nodded, wasn’t my emotions on a high already today? Now I had to worry about keeping on the DL. Fantastic.

It wasn’t hard getting a room. The old guy at the counter didn’t seem to have any clue who I was which helped, all the same I got a room with just a queen sized bed. Matt could sleep on the floor or the couch if there was one. Unfortunately our room was a little far away so we would be getting pelted with the rain.

Once we got inside Matt slammed the door shut behind us. We had been out of the car for only a few moments, but we were completely soaked. Shivering, I stripped off my coat, hating the feel of the wet leather on my skin. Turning around I saw Matt drop his jacket also, only his white t-shirt was wet to and happened to be sticking to him in all the right places. I studied his abs for a moment, not even realising it, until Matt looked up at me and smiled. Turning away I felt my cheeks grow hot. Looking around I studied the room. It was clean, with a basic white carpet and a bed with a gray comforter and white pillows. There was an on suit bathroom that looked like had a decent shower in it. I thought it looked like a really nice place to be right now.
