The next few days were different. We didn’t fight like usual but we weren’t exactly perfectly at ease around each other either. Matt was cool and collective like his old self, but under that collectiveness I could see something brewing, but he kept it carefully hidden and I would only catch glimpses of it and only sometimes. But other than that it was as though that night had never happened.
Accept for the fact that it was all I could think about.
I was here to help Matt right?
Well wasn’t he helped now? Wasn’t I aloud to pack up and get the hell out of here? Because clearly I was not strong enough resist him, I had even let it slip that I loved him! That could never happen again.
But what about Matt? He was pretty hell bent on getting me back, not to mention he was just getting his life back together, I didn’t want to leave just for all of our hard work to fall apart again.
When Ben turned I felt both relived and irritated. The relief I could understand, I mean, my boyfriend was home! Who wouldn’t be happy? But the irritation? That slightly disturbed me.
It started the morning that he returned. I was fact asleep in my room, dreaming a sweet dream. Matt and
I were lying on a beach; covered in sand I could still see the tanned smoothness of his chest. He was running his fingers through my hair and I felt tingles shoot through my body at his touch.
“You see” Matt said “We are meant to be together”
I didn’t answer; instead I leaned in him and kissed him. Just as the kiss was about to deepen and I began to feel the tingles really start to shoot through me, something jolted me awake.
For a moment I didn’t see anything, I was still getting over the shock of being pulled out of Matt’s arms, even if it wasn’t real. I wanted to cry, actually I wanted to get out of bed and run down to his room. But a face hovering above mine stopped me.
“Good morning princess”
At first I thought it might have been Matt, but when my vision cleared I saw Ben starring down at me, crystal blue eyes dancing as he watched me.
“Ben” I said “Your home?”
A slight frown appeared on Ben’s perfect face.
“Yeah” He said “I got here about five minutes ago, aren’t you happy to see me?”
It was then that I realised I was acting less than the happy girlfriend that I should be right now. Placing a smile on my face I reached up and through my arms around him.
“Of course I’m happy to see you” I said “You just woke me up”
Ben chuckled and tugged up my arms, holding me back slightly
“Well I’m sorry darling but I can’t control my flight times”
He sat down and pulled me into his arms, kissing me on the lips, I kissed him back. Ben leaned back and eyed me warily
“What?” I asked
“You kissed me different” Ben said, eyeing my lips like they were something new to him
I raised an eyebrow at him in confusion, but inside, my heart was pounding.
“How could I possibly have kissed you differently?” I asked
Ben shrugged
“You just didn’t seem all there” Ben said
I arched my other eyebrow at him
