Day 2 of my punishment. Usually when someone does something really bad like punch someone or steal food from the kitchen, they get locked in their room for anywhere from a day to a week. Since I hit little miss perfect, Amanda Grace, I imagine that I'm going to be in here for a long time. That wouldn't really be a problem, giving that I don't normally talk to people anyways. However there is one thing. I haven't eaten since breakfast yesterday.
My growling stomach is a constant reminder of my mistakes. Do I regret punching Amanda? Not really. I've been punished many times before, and Miss Hattie, being the neglectful bastard she is, has let me starve before too. But never for a week. That's when I make the a stupid decision that I'm probably on a regret later.
I'm sneaking out.
I crawl out of my window and slip down the ladder that I had placed many months ago, just for this purpose. I'm still wearing the same outfit as yesterday, but I don't mind. Due to all the cleaning I did while wearing it, it's probably the cleanest thing I own. I begin to walk towards the town about a block away, letting my feet carry me in the direction I've come to know so well over the years.
I arrive at Pete's Bakery about 10 minutes later. I walk through the door and I am immediately greeted by the homely smell of fresh baked bread. I smile as I walk up to the counter.
"Hi, Casey." I say to one of the employees that works here. Whenever I need a break from the Orphanages brown slush, Caseys my go to man. He always has been very kind about my situation.
"Hi there, Lori. The usual?" He asks.
"Well, yeah- but can you triple it? I punched Amanda in the nose and now I'm stuck with no meals for a week. Could be two weeks if I get caught out here, so make it quick will ya?" I say.Casey smirks, "yes, ma'am." He mumbles as he heads to the back to get my order. I'm lucky I remembered to grab my phone and some money that I "borrowed" from Amanda before I left.
He returns about 4 minutes later with a bag full of muffins and bagels. I hand him some money and go outside the shop. I lean against the wall as I devour one of the bagels and absorb the fresh air before I have to head back to the orphanage.
My phone gets an alert. I pull it out of my pocket and check what it says. It's just a notification of Danisnotonfire doing a blog type thin with AmazingPhil. I click the link and watch it. It's hilarious as always.
"We have a kinda depressing view from our hotel," video Dan states, "right Phil?"
"Yeah, it's an orphanage. Makes me sad to think bout all the kids who live there." Phil says from the background. I look at the orphanage and my jaw drops. That's my orphanage.
"Anyways, we are going to be vlogging everyday this week, so we can show you our full trip." Continues video Dan, but I'm not even listening.
The Dan Howell and AmazingPhil are staying in the hotel right across from where I live. I'm it erupted from my daydreams by a man clearing his throat.
"You're gonna have to come with me." Says the man. I recognize him as Miss Hattie's boyfriend, who also happens to be a cop.
"Hey, Charlie.... Wanna muffin?" I say, but something tells me bribery isn't gonna work. I sigh as he leads me to his police car and I hop in.
The ride back to the orphanage is silent, my foot tapping rapidly and my mind wandering to every possible outcome of my arrival home. Maybe it's just my ADHD, but 4/10 of the outcomes invoke death. I gulp as we pull into the orphanage.
Charlie grabs me by the scruff of my neck and pulls me to the front door and rings the bell. I gulp as Miss Hattie's expression changes from delighted to se Charlie, to infuriated to see me.
The adults exchange a few words before I am hauled back up to my room. The door is relocated behind me. I sigh and make my way over to the window. I'm not gonna risk it again. I'm already due for a 2 week long punishment. But look on the bright side: at least I still have my bagels.
