The ride to the airport is long, but I don't mind. Phil sits next to me, asking me questions and telling jokes the entire time, while Dan sits in the front passenger seat intervening into our conversation every so often.
"So, you like books? What ones?" Phil asks.
"I dunno, all of them! I really like the Harry Potter series, but of course every one does. Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, Percy Jackson; those series are all good." I answer, a smile on my face. Nothing could wipe this smile on my face right now."Have you read our book?" Dan asks, with a playful, accusing look. I shake my head no.
"I really wanted to, but the library didn't have it and I didn't have money to buy it. I did used to sneak into the book store and take the book into the shop's bathroom and read it there. I never got past the first 10 pages though." I explain. Phil digs trough his bag until he finds what he's looking for. The Amazing Book is not on Fire.
"Good thing I always carry this around with me." Phil says with a cocky smile, handing me the book.
"You carry a copy of our book in your bag.....?" Dan says. I laugh.
The rest of the car ride is it as enjoyable. We turn the music up and sing-a-long to 1-D until our voices are hoarse. Dan eventually assumes the browsing position in the front seat and Phil falls asleep next to me. I take the silent time to begin reading TABINOF.
By the time we arrive at the airport, it's 7:00 PM. We check in our baggage and air at the boarding station.
Phil sleeps through most of the trip with his head crooked in an awful zebra print travel pillow while Dan works on editing a video. I pull out my stuffed animal and pull it close to me. This is insane. I've been adopted by Dan and Phil. I can still hardly believe it. I feel at any second I'll wake up to Amanda Grace beating me with a pillow and screaming for me to wake up.
I pul out my copy of The Fault in our Stars and begin to reread it for probably the millionth time.

"Lori, wake up, we're here." Dan says, slightly shaking my shoulder. I blink my eyes as I wake. I stuff my book back into my bag. I must have fallen asleep reading it.
"Sorry." I mumble.
"Don't be," Dan reassures, " Phil slept the entire time with his ugly pillow and pig snores.""Hey!" Phil says, playfully shoving him. I laugh as we exit the plane, Dan and Phil having to duck down to fit under the door way.
The drive back home is the same as it was on the way here: full of questions and laughter. I'm really paranoid that I'm gonna make a fool out of myself and then I'll be sent back. That should change eventually. It's like that with all orphans, I'm sure. There isn't much time to ponder whether or not this will all work out, as Dan and Phil hammer me with questions the whole way back.
"What's your favorite color?"
"Pale green."
"What's your favorite animal?"
"A wolf."
"What's your favorite movie?"
"Up."
"Favorite food?"
"Cereal."
"Favorite holiday?"
"Christmas."
"Life goal?"
"Be adopted by someone who actually loves me."
"Well, you can check that off."
