"What do you want, Ella?" he asks, not even looking at her. He seems enchanted by the escalators. Ella looks like she wants to lay on the escalator to get some attention. She sadly holds herself back, man that would've been a funny picture to post on the internet. Maybe even meme worthy.

"You know what I want," she flutters her eyelashes at him.

"Oh no, Ella, do you have something in your eye? Maybe you should get that cake off your face and clean your lashes, that's probably what's in your eye, isn't it? Oh, you know what, we should go straight to the emergency room, because this could get very serious. The stuff in your eye might somehow be rubbed right back and affect your brain! Oh my, you can't lose anymore brain cells, you only have like five left!"

Everyone looks at me. Ella wants to rip my hair out, but probably not in front of her lifetime crush Jared. Ah, this takes me back. She used to always be so jealous of that girl. Always saying mean things about her behind her back. Yeah, Ella has pretty much always been a bitch. The only happiness she's focused on is her own. I'm not even sure if she's focused on happiness, it might be pleasure. She just wants what she can't have and will stop at nothing to get it.

This takes me back...

My eyes are glued to the brown eyed boy and blonde haired girl. Her hair floats around her as she runs around him laughing. White dress covered with grass stains, but she doesn't seem fazed. I'd be freaked my mum would tell me off, but she just keeps laughing. The boy with the incredible brown eyes is concentration solely on her as he grins. They're carefree. She runs as he watches and tries to keep up, but she's so unpredictable he never does. That doesn't stop him from chasing. Blindly chasing. I can practically see his heart jumping out of his chest. He looks beautiful.

"Hey, Ree, what are you watching them for?" I don't move my eyes from the pair. I can't. I'm transfixed standing here at the gate waiting for mum to come and pick us up. Cold blue eyes suddenly take me by force as they step in way of my view.

"Move, Ethan," I push him to find they've disappeared from sight.

"Forget about them! You've never even talked to them, talk to me."

I look at him. His eyes are desperate, I don't often see them that way.

"You're just my brother's friend," I reply.

I would think he was hurt by the comment if the desperation didn't fade from his eyes to be replaced by a playful grin.

"Yeah, you're just fun to annoy," he says before turning around and running off towards the bathroom. He must have been holding for a long time.

"He's so cute!" I hear a familiar annoyingly high pitched voice. Ella.

"Why doesn't he ditch Hannah? She's so annoying, way too happy all the time," she continues, jealousy dripping from her tone.

"What's wrong, Ella? So sick of happiness you want to make sure others don't feel comfortable with their own joy?" I turn and say to her.

I'm met by the familiar set of blazing eyes. How can someone so small carry so much rage? It beats me, but someone has to stand up for the good in the world. I know too much for a nine year old, but knowledge is key to the world isn't it? I'm a nerd, now I'm ignored because of it, in future I'll probably be persecuted for it, but it's who I am. I may not deserve to be treated like an outcast, but all the other girls side with Ella. I'm alone, but that's still the best company I could've gotten if these cowards were the alternative.

"Whatever." She never was good at comebacks.

The blonde haired girl is back in view. Three, two, one... there he is. Just on time. I grin at the sight. He's always there for her. Part of me envies her. She seems to not notice whether he's there or not, but he always is. I've got no one, but I can still appreciate people who have a strong bond. It's picture perfect. Something it'd be improbable for me to ever gain.

A/N: Hey, so apparently this is #895 in Humour. I think that's an all-time best on Wattpad for me. Oh well. I thought I'd put in this flashback to give a clearer view of what Jared is missing, and how Ella has always been, but especially to clarify Mary's look on life. She's strong, no doubt about it. But I guess she feels lonely. She's smart, and persecuted for it. Kind of like how in the Merchant of Venice Shylock is persecuted for being Jewish. You can't help who you are, you can't help what you believe in, I just hope that someday you find happiness while being yourself. I hope Mary does too, but life isn't always so kind. She might though, read on...

This song is awesome, it's uplifting, have a listen as you read XD
