I ran up close to her. Please be okay. Please. Her eyes were glazed over as she stared above. Tears swelled up in my eyes.
"Katie. No..." I whispered as I dropped my head on her bed.
"Hey, Salty cinnamon roll." I hear, followed by a series of coughs. I raise my head to see her looking at me. I start crying from happiness. I don't know whether to hit her for scaring me so hard, or if I should just laugh. I go with the laughing as I wipe my tears. She smiles at me.
"So how are you?" I ask her gently.
"Well my head is pounding, and my body feels like it's dismembered from me. But, apart from that, I guess it's good." She coughs in between words and smiles at me when she's finished. I laugh at her again. "Anyway, how are you?" She asks me softly.
"I'm pretty good. Just feel bruised. I should be leaving today today though."
"That's good. They really haven't told me much about what happened." She looks behind me. I followed her gaze to see Kyle and Nigol arguing. I scrunched up my face in confusion. They both looked at me at the same time and I blushed. Then they glared at each other again.
"Look Sophia, I have to go. My dad is expecting me. Hope you feel better Katie." Nigol smiled at us and left. Then Kyle turned to us and smirked as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah same, I'm meeting some friends. I'll see you later?" He asks me.
"Sure." I tell him, and he leaves as well. Katie turns an accusing glance at me and wiggles her eyebrows, which ends up in a hacking cough and a wince. I roll my eyes at her.
"Who were those -" she starts, but a nurse comes in and glares at me.
"You're not supposed to be in here. Please leave the room." The nurse tells me sharply. I'm about to argue, to tell her, there's no way I'm going to leave my best friend in this condition. But I look behind her and see Katie's parents, so I close my mouth and wave goodbye as I leave the room, what I find in my hospital room, is not what I expect...
