In the prince's chamber

John was one of the youngest Captains ever to be appointed in Hyrule, to be asked to the Prince's room was unprecedented for someone his age. However the order had been given and he had to attend even if it had been a mistake.

When he reached the door he rapped lightly and waited for an answer. Prince Bente's head came out of the door, peered down the hall in both directions then opened the door more and jerked his head. "Get in."

When John was inside, Bente shut the door, locked the bolt, and stuffed cloth around all the seals to insure that it couldn't be heard through.

Bente and John were practically the same age, standing only a year or two different, and in their late teens both were the talk of the women in the city. "I need to know something..." the prince spoke cautiously, "I need to know. Are you loyal to the current crown or to me?"

"My lord? Why would you ask?"

"Just answer the question!" He barked.

"Yes sire! I am loyal to the crown out of obligation, however I will be of more loyalty to those who follow after the crown passes." John stammered back.

"I'm glad to hear that. Because what I'm asking you to do is treason. You understand?"

"Yes sire. What is it that you require of me?"

"I need you to train the Gerudo child. I need you to free him when he is thirteen and get him to the edge of the desert where I will arrange for a tribe to take him back to his people..." Bente looked John up and down attempting to read his stone face hoping he hadn't just made a huge mistake.

John squatted and wiped his hand over his face, letting it linger for a moment on his chin."Uugh... Alright, I will do it. Mainly out of curiosity sire. Why now? Out of decades, why now to try and save the child?"

"That is a male Gerudo. He is acknowledged as king among Gerudo for just being born. They are not a ragtag group of sand dwellers anymore. They are organizing and growing more powerful. It won't be long until a full on war will occur, and if it's at all possible I don't want that to be what people remember as the start of my rule... Do this and I will consider you to be a life long friend."

"You don't need to bribe me with friendship. I'm glad to help. Besides you don't just choose to be friends with someone. It just happens." John busted out laughing while turning to the door and pulling the bolt.

"John. Where are you going?"Bente inquired, as John had a foot out the door.

"To sleep. I have to be awake before all the other men anyway, now I need to be up extra early. Goodnight sire." he went to step out again.

"Oh! And John...thank you!" he called as his new found friend made his way down the corridor.

'The next few years were some of the best in recorded history. The crops grew in record numbers, multitudes of livestock were traded and born. The country exploded with commerce. The Prince fulfilled his duty during that time, and married a princess from a close neighboring country.'

'However. The peace would not last forever. The eastern tribes in the desert had started getting more and more bold as the years past. Raids on trading caravans increased, forcing the king to assign soldiers to protect them on their travels.'

"Something must be done I tell you! We cannot continue to have these rogues rampaging across our countryside!" The king bellowed.

"What more do want me to do? We are spread thin as is! Any attempt to flush them out would be stupid, if not dangerous for the ones we send! Besides rumors are spreading that traitors are making their way into the kingdom. However there may be a way to stop the hostilities once and for all like I have said..." Bente responded, looking at his father.
