Chapter 2

Days pass and people change but I never thought that my very own blood could disown me so fast. I take that back. It is not a shocker nor is it a surprise. I have grown up in a world that leaves everyone behind only to make them better.

I returned home to my sister only to find nothing of hers was in the small apartment. My hand vibrated meaning there was a chat left for me here. If someone wants to leave words behind for someone else to read, they address the person in the building, who is not there, and then delivers it to the home system.

Angela- Have a good life. I have found my true love and will follow him forever. I hope to never see you again or those awful habits you obtain. Be good little sister.

And just like that she was gone. I looked around the flat apartment and noted that I'd have to pay everything by myself. I walked over to the glass wall and sat down in front of it.

Finding bills and payments on the screen was never hard. Ten bills popped up around the wall and started to unfold themselves.

Reading where my money is going never seems to brighten my day. A payment to the employment of the boss. I have to see the boss every week just like anyone else. Everyone needs a social life.

Walking in the Chat room, I placed my hand on the scanner before dropping my weight in a plump chair.

BUZZ!

Andrew- My lovely lady never deceived me.

Me- I suppose not.

Andrew- Did you hear about the new implant? It's mandatory.

Me- And that would be?

Andrew- The left wrist is going to be coated like a wrap around screen. It's amazing what they come up with!

Me- Amazing.

Andrew- Well now that you know, we shall go together.

Me- I cannot today for I have other plans.

Lying was never a flaw I carry much, but in times of need it is a must.

Andrew- But you know you have to have it done before dusk approaches tonight.

Me- Of course. Goodbye Mr. Lincoln.

Andrew- Oh, you must not leave yet. I am getting use to seeing your word choice popping up on my hand.

Me- My apologies.

Not waiting for his comment, I shot up and all but sprinted out of the building. A new implant was taken today and I, like always, was never alerted. They always like to take me in when nobody is around.

I don't want to get my wrist improved. I like how it holds dazzling trinkets. I like how it twists and curves without any help. Sighing I followed a group of silent people to the bus. The tapping of shoes pattered against the ground to my heart beat pounding inside my chest. In four steeps we were on the Robo bus settled in our individual seats.

BUZZ!

Bus Attendant- I am required to take you to lot 168 for improvements.

I felt sick on my stomach as replies from everyone on the bus were joyous. The Robo started and we all blacked out for a total of eight seconds before it came to a sudden stop. Looking out the window, I noticed piles of buses and people surrounding Lot 168. It is known as the greatest corporation around here. It started the improvements. For me this place used to be home.

Once my feet hit the ground a slice of voltage soared up my left arm making me tumble to my knees. I looked at my hand and noticed the screen was covered in red.

YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR LIMIT OF WALKING FOR THE DAY. FOR YOUR SAFTEY AND HEALTH I HAVE ORDERED A ROLLER.

The voltage stopped and soon a hovering electronic prism was next to me awaiting me to pull myself to my feet. After I stood up, I placed my pointer finger on the small screen protruding out of the helper. After downloading my information, it slammed into my knees from behind making me collapse on it.

BUZZ!

Roller- We are headed to the main room. This will cost you five pixels.

I sighed and looked around me to find others waiting in lines with their noses stuck in their hands. Once born from the tribe, each newborn receives the box of information in their left pointer finger. Once the newborn reaches the age of two months, all improvements are gifted to the children. The children are not allowed to have anyone with them while the procedure is taking place. They tell the parents that are with the baby, they don’t want to stress out the newborn and they start to cry while improving them. They say it is a painless process. The truth about why they don’t let anyone back is that they don’t want anyone to think badly of improvements. They are painful. They are long and they are implanted in children without any drug. The more drugged an adult is the easier they will forget the pain. The younger the child the less they will remember.

I was sent to a small room piled with beds spread inches apart from one another. Everything was the same shade of baby blue.

BUZZ!

Oxford- Everyone in this room is being sent to bed. Your improvements will be tomorrow, due to the overload of people.

I stared around the room and urged the Roller to a bed before tapping the screen next to the bed. As I slid off the helpers platform onto the bed, I held my left hand up. A laser came from its screen into mine and I could feel it pulling pixels off my hand. Before long, it was gone and I was left to look around the room. Tiny cups were beside every bed that probably had drugs and liquor mixed together. While in the lines waiting for your implant, they serve the special drinks and make sure everyone has at least three glasses before taken into the rooms.

People were everywhere. Sleeping, chatting or playing games on their hand was all that they cared to accomplish. I pushed my eyes around the room to find anyone who seemed familiar. As I lay down, I felt my hand vibrate.

Andrew- I saw your lovely name in here. I guess it’s distended for us to always be near.

Looking over to the bed next to mine, I noticed the same man from earlier. The only difference is that now he was dressed in different shades of yellow. As I matched his face to the one placed next to his name on the screen, I noticed the dull coating on his eyes.

Me- Do you know where I am?

Andrew- You’re in this room of course. Silly question.

Me- I am sorry if it seems I have insulted you. Good night Mr. Lincoln.

Andrew- Good night my lovely Maya.

I stared at him while he chatted with others. I watched his deep brown eyes run across the screen as he read. His short brown hair matched every other male’s hairstyle. Plain. My hair was chopped in different wacky layers where as every other girls hair is long and one length. I cut my own hairstyle. Who would notice my hair is different? Nobody. Sighing I closed my eyes and wished for something imposable. Something insane.
