I walk out to the front not even bothering with the umbrella as the rain pours down onto me all my fears hitting me like punch to the face. I hear his steps behind me and I stop as he catches up to me. His umbrella overhead now blocking the rain from me.
"Hey can I take you somewhere? You'll catch something out here." He says I look at his face noticing the gold flecks in his blue eyes and the scruff on his chin.
"No I'm just down the street, thank you tho." I say and think about how harsh that sounded. "I don't get sick easily, but if you're that worried, how about you show me a good place to get a hot coffee?" I say smiling genuinely again for a man a barely know.
"Sure there's a great shop just down the street." I look at him and notice that even though I had been harsh he never stopped smiling.
"Lead the way." I say as he leads me to his jeep. He opens the door for me and I get in trying not to get the interior all wet but that's a helpless idea, considering I'm soaked to the bone. He walks around and gets in the driver side and we wait a second and Troy goes to get in the passenger side but notices I'm there so he gets in the back seat.
"Are we taking her home?" Troy asks his voice slightly higher indicating that he is hopeful to get rid of me. I look away and roll my eyes trying to think of a good way to get in his good graces.
"No where going to the coffee shop around the corner to warm up then we will take her home." Ryan says starting the ignition and heading down the street his eyes occasionally stealing a glance in my direction as he drives three streets down to a mom and pop coffee shop.
"Soooo.....um Troy have you lived here all your life?" I ask trying to gain the guys trust. I look back at him trying to read his face as he contemplates answering me. He sighs when we pull up the coffee shop as he no longer has to answer my question. I slowly get out of the warm embrace of the car into the frigid cold air, the steam from my breath a testament to how cold it is. We quickly head inside the smell of coffee and the sweet smell of freshly baked goodies attacking my senses.
I smile and my mouth waters at the smell of something really sweet. Relishing in the fact that I will actually get to eat sugar on Earth, back home that's not aloud. I look over to Ryan and see his amused face. I walk to the counter and look seeing an amazing looking and smelling sugary treat.
"HI I would like the Snickers cupcake and a medium black coffee please." I say as I pull out my wallet and I see the price of ten dollars and twenty three cents. I pull out twelve dollars and hand it to her. "Keep the change." I smile as she hands me my receipt.
"Thank you, head over to the side counter for your coffee, here is your cupcake. Have a good day." She says and I take my cupcake and head to the side counter and grab my coffee. I look back to Ryan and Troy and their whispering to each other again. I slowly touch my temple to strengthen my senses.
"Why are you being so nice to her dude there are two reasons a guy treats a woman the way you are. One you want her or two your playing her what is it?" He says getting frustrated as I wait at the corner and I head to an empty table.
"I'm not playing her T, I think....... I don't know,... I think I like her." He says and shuts up heading to the table after grabbing his coffee. I touch my temple again and my senses go back to normal. We sit down and talk for a while about school and our classes. Until I got a bad feeling in my gut and I looked over at Troy, and with just a glance he had it too. I faked being sick with a cough forcing my cheeks to become flush.
"Hey are you feeling ok?" Ryan says reaching out to touch my forehead and force my magic to give me a fever. "Fuck, your really warm. I should take you home." I nodded slowly knowing anything I force my magic to do would actually impact me.
