Charlotte's POV

"Is this seat taken?" Dylan asked, standing at the desk next to me.

"It is now." I grinned. He smirked back at me and sat down.

"Because it's the last week of school, and the principal believes in students having social lives, this is where you will be spending your last days as high school students. First period will be the only period you have this week, and we won't be doing anything, so enjoy your conversations." Mr. Fitz announced, leaning back in his chair. I turned towards Amelia and took a deep breath.

"So, Jason asked me out again." I blurted.

"Oh great. What did you say this time?" Amelia asked, rolling her eyes.

"I told him I had better things to do." I replied simply.

"When is he going to drop the idea of dating you?" Amelia asked, pulling a notebook and a pen from her bag.

"Please, Jason Herring only wants to get into girls pants. He's slept with every girl in our grade except us, and he'd like to have bragging rights." I spat, venom coating every word.

"Well aren't you two special?" Dylan sounded from behind me.

"Excuse me?" I asked, turning to him.

"I'm just saying, you two seem special. Jason told me he's been trying to get with you guys since middle school. Why is that?" He questioned, a lopsided smirk taking over his face.

"Maybe because Charlotte's parents own this city." A brunette sounded from across the classroom.

"My parents do not own this city. They just fund a lot of city events." I clarify, a blush taking over my cheeks.

"And that's why you have a guaranteed job at one of your family's many businesses." The same girl said.

"Look, I've owned that business since I was twelve years old. It's mine, not theirs, and I'd appreciate it if we stopped talking about it." I snapped, making the brunette turn quickly back to her friends.

"Did you just say that to Charlotte May? She could destroy you!" One of her friends whispered.

"So, you're a pretty nice catch. That's why Jason is so adamant on getting with you. What about you, cutie?" Dylan asked, turning his attention from me to Amelia. She flushed and looked to me for help.

"Amelia has been my best friend since birth. She's family." I state simply.

"Jason just wants to get in good with Charlotte to gain the same connections she has. He's been begging Charlotte for a job since high school started." Amelia said.

"What is it exactly you do for work?" Dylan asked.

"How long have you lived in town?" I countered.

"A few months, guess you could say I don't know much about the locals." He responded.

"I own a small bakery downtown." I said, a proud smile gracing my face.

"Jason wants to work in a bakery?" Dylan asked, looking confused.

"God, no. He wants to intern for my father at his law firm, and eventually become a lawyer with my father as his mentor." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Amy!" I heard over the noise of the classroom. My head, along with Amelia's, snapped to the door. My brother and Amelia's boyfriend stood at the classroom door, motioning for us to follow them.

"I'll be back." I mumbled to Dylan, tossing my bag on the desk. I pushed through the students in the aisle and stood in front of my little brother.

"What's wrong?" Amelia asked, looking up at her boyfriend, Nolan.

"I don't like you guys talking to Dylan. He's associated with some bad guys." Nolan said, placing a possessive arm over Amelia.

"Yeah, he seems like a bad guy." My brother, Adam, huffed.

"Look, I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself, and Dylan isn't a bad guy from what I can tell." I shrugged.

"Whatever. I love you." Adam said, kissing my cheek and walking out if the classroom. Amelia and Nolan were doing their couple thing, so I walked back to my desk. As I was walking through the aisle, someone stuck their foot out, and because I was wearing heels, I stumbled forward. I caught myself on the desk next to me and slowly stood up. The class went silent as I turned to the mouthy brunette, who sat smugly in her chair, a smirk plastered on her face.

"Oops?" She asked sarcastically.

"Look, bitch. I gave you more chances today than most people get from me in a year. You have two options, you can apologize, or you can swing first." I snapped, getting in her face. She had a look of shock on her face, but covered it up quickly. She set the smirk back on her face and slapped me. My head whipped to the side and I let out a chuckle.

"Everyone saw that she hit me first, so what happens next is self defense." I grinned, tackling the brunette out of her desk.

We came crashing down in the middle of a group of people, but I couldn't care less. She pulled at my hair and I sent a punch to her jaw, knocking her out cold.

"Someone take her to the nurse, I assume I have an appointment with the principal?" I asked, wiping my bottom lip. Mr. Fitz nodded and went back to the book he was reading. I tugged the hair tie out of my hair and let my curls fall over my face. I grabbed my bag and headed towards the door.

"See you later." I waved to Amelia and Nolan, and walked quickly to the principal's office.

"Charlotte, wait up!" I heard someone call. I turned and saw Dylan running up to me.

"For a woman in heels, you walk really fast." Dylan panted.

"It's like riding a bike. You start slow, and pick up speed. Can I help you?" I asked.

"Well, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to talk with you alone." I turned and continued walking to the principal's office.

"You throw a wicked right hook, I'm guessing that wasn't your first fight?" Dylan asked, walking next to me.

"No. Not at all. I've been 'defending myself' since elementary school." Dylan pulled open the office door and followed me in.

"Miss May. This is your third offense, so I'm going to keep this short. You can graduate, but you cannot walk the stage." I felt myself freeze and a lump form in my throat.

"What!"
