Ben's POV
I told you being with that girl before we found our mate would come back and bite us in the ass. Xavier growled at me.
In my defense, Charlotte, I was against the idea of him being with anyone other than our mate. Xavier thought to Charlotte.
"Well, I'm glad at least one of you has some sense." Charlotte laughed. It was a laugh void of emotion. Her icy glare landed on me, making me feel both her anger and my own disappointment.
"I can expla-" She cut me off.
"I went to prom with Amelia because no one that asked me seemed to like me for me. I subconsciously waited for you in every sense, but you just couldn't keep it in your pants, could you?" She asked angrily.
"Let me explain." I pleaded, reaching for her. She jerked her body away from me, and I let out an audible whimper.
"Don't touch me. You can tell me what you need to tell me from there."
"I had lost hope in finding you, most wolves find their mates when they turn sixteen. I was eighteen, and lonely, and I hated my wolf for not finding you. I found a girl in town and did a very stupid guy thing. I took her home, but after what was supposed to be a one night stand she called me and told me she was pregnant. I didn't want to seem irresponsible, so I took her in, and took care of her. Xavier hated it, and told me to drop her the second I found out about her pregnancy. After three months, her due date was here. What the pack doctors didn't tell me was that if someone other than your mate was pregnant with your child, they- they don't make it. She didn't make it. She and the baby didn't make it." I explained, dropping my face in my hands. When I heard Charlotte sniffle, my head shot up and I stared at her with wide eyes.
"Baby, don't cry. I love you, and she meant nothing to me. Please don't cry." I pleaded, feeling her pain and anger course through my body.
"How dare you ask me not to cry. How dare you tell me about another girl you cared for, that you got pregnant, and tell me not to show how I'm feeling. Do you understand how hard this just hit me?" She questioned, wiping tears off of her cheeks.
I told you not to pursue her, I told you we'd find our mate. And now, you can't even comfort our brokenhearted mate because she's disgusted with you. Xavier spat. And for the first time since I shifted, Xavier blocked me out.
"Yeah, it's not your fault Xavier." Charlotte said through her tears.
"I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry." I said, feeling tears spring in my eyes.
"I need to call Amelia. I can't stay here tonight, the stress of this situation isn't good for your baby." She said, her voice emotionless.
"No, don't leave. Please don't leave." I said, my voice cracking. Tears fell from my eyes as I watched Charlotte walk up the stairs.
"I need some space, Ben." She whispered, disappearing up the stairs. I broke down on the couch in my living room.
"Hey, I heard what happened. Everything will be fine, she'll come back." Dylan said, sitting next to me on the couch.
"Nothing will be fine, Dylan. Charlotte is going to leave me, she's going to take my baby and Belle with her. Fuck, even Xavier's left me. I can feel her heart breaking and I can't help her." I cried into my hands.
"Ben, listen to me. She needs space. Imagine how you would feel if she told you she'd been with another guy." Dylan reasoned. I felt anger bubble up inside of me as he said this, making me glare harshly at him.
"You were sent to keep an eye on her, has she been with someone other than me?" I growled.
"See, you're angry." Dylan pointed out. "Now what if she told you she were with some guy for a few months."
"I see what you're getting at, but it doesn't make it hurt any less." I said, wiping my tears. Dylan was about to say something but was cut off by the front door slamming open.
"Amelia, you need to calm down." Chloe's voice rang.
"My best friend is pregnant and hurting. Where is he?" Amelia snarled. She stormed into the living room, causing me to rise to my feet.
"Amelia I ca-" I was cut off by a harsh slap.
"You don't get to explain anything to anyone. You think you can get away with hurting my best friend just because you're her mate? No, it doesn't work like that. You stay away from her. You let her come to you when she's ready. I don't want you anywhere near her, or me, for the next few days. Am I clear?" She asked. The inner alpha male in me made me feel angry at her for telling me what to do, but I knew I was in the wrong.
"Yeah. Okay." I whispered, falling back onto the couch. I heard light footsteps coming down the stairs and I felt someone standing in front of me. I looked up and saw a red faced Isabelle.
"What did you do to her?" She demanded.
"I-"
"Shut up." She growled, her blue eyes shining.
"I don't care what you did at the moment. I just want you to know that you better fix whatever it is you did to my mother before my brother or sister is born. Got it, Ben?" Something about Isabelle calling Charlotte her mom, but calling me by my name struck a nerve. I was rendered speechless by a little girl, and all I could do was nod slowly.
"I want a verbal response, Benjamin." She snapped.
"Yes, I'll fix it." I said quickly.
"Aunt Amelia is going to take us in. You know where to find us when mom decides she's ready to see you." Isabelle said, spinning on her heel and running back up the stairs.
"Everyone hates me." I groaned.
"We all have wonderful reasons to hate you." Amelia snarled, glaring down at me.
"Thank you, Xavier. But I'm positive I want to leave." I heard Charlotte say. Everyone turned and saw her at the top of the stairs, a suitcase by her side. Michael met her there with Belle and picked up the suitcase. Charlotte grabbed Isabelle's hand and walked with her down the stairs.
"Hey, let's get you back to your dad's. You, me, and Belle can marathon Disney movies and stuff our faces with Ben and Jerry's." Amelia said, smiling up at Charlotte.
"That sounds great." She sighed, following Amelia to the door.
"What about me?" Chloe asked.
"I love you, but I think Charlotte needs to stay away from wolves for a while." Amelia said, glaring at me.
"Well, all wolves except for Michael. I know that Ben wouldn't want us to be unprotected, and as much as I love you Chloe, Belle and I need Michael." Charlotte clarified. I felt a surge of jealousy at the thought of Michael getting to see my mate while she cut me off.
"You don't get to be jealous, Benjamin. Not now." Charlotte whispered, walking out the door with Belle. Amelia kissed Chloe and followed them out the door.
"You got bitched at by your mate, her angry best friend, and a twelve year old. Great job man." Michael said, picking up Charlotte's suitcase and his duffel bag. He walked out of the house and closed the door behind him.
"My mate, my wolf, my baby, my adopted daughter, and my beta. Can I lose anyone else?"
"I'm out." Chloe said, leaving the house. Dylan looked away from me and sighed.
"I can't be around you when you're depressed." He said, disappearing up the stairs. For the first time since I was 15, I was left alone in silence; just me and my broken heart.
