"You have to come with me, even if you don't want to. Your parents aren't here, and I'm going to the party. And you're my responsibility, so get in the car" David ushered Curt out of the house and towards his car
Curt tried to put up a fight earlier but it didn't work at all. David forced him to put something nice on and go with him. Curt reluctantly got into the car and put his seat belt on. He stared out his window the whole time, ignoring David every time he tried to talk to him. Finally, they pulled up to a big house in the middle of a small forest. People were already stumbling around the front yard, acting like idiots
"Dave!" A squealing girl came running up to his car and Curt quickly got out so David wouldn't be seen with him. Nobody knew that they were related and he wanted to keep it that way
He shoved his hands in his pockets and walked to an area with nobody around and leaned against a tree. He laughed to himself upon seeing people making complete fools of themselves
"So you showed up" Billy, Robbie and the boy who beat him up earlier, walked up to him
Curt didn't say anything. It was going to go one of two ways. They'd leave him alone, or they'd continue to harass him. He wasn't thinking it'd be the first one
"Not tonight Billy" David came walking up, and the guys stared at his hair mainly. They all did a handshake but listened to him and walked away, as if nothing happened
"I don't need you to always run to my rescue" Curt pushed himself off the tree
"Nobody else is going to" David shook his head and closed his eyes for a little while
"Oh? So what, I'm just a burden? My bad, mr popular" Curt walked past him and was about to leave, but someone tapped him from behind
"I didn't think you'd show up, but I'm glad you did" Neil smiled at him when he turned around to see who it was
"Wasn't planning on it, but didn't have a choice. So here I am" Curt shrugged and watched David go in the house, out of the corner of his eye
A couple of the guys came out of the house shirtless, carrying a football. Great. A bunch of jocks trying to show off, playing football in the front yard
Then Curt's eye landed on one certain guy. Roland. Curt couldn't stop himself from staring. How could he? Roland was looking angelic, with his curly brown hair, and skin showing
"You okay?" Neil nudged Curt out of his daze and Curt nodded to him and turned around so he wouldn't be staring
Curt and Neil engaged in short conversation, and it wasn't long before Curt was lying down on his back, staring up
"Oh god Curt, I am so sorry" Roland's blurry face popped into Curt's view
Curt's eyes narrowed on him, trying to focus on him. The football hit him pretty hard and the impact on the ground added more damage
Roland knelt down and grabbed Curt. He carefully pulled him up and put one of Curt's arms around his shoulder and walked him inside. People moved around them and he took Curt to Paula's kitchen. She already knew what happened and headed for a first aid kit
"How many fingers am I holding up?" Roland held 3 fingers up in front of Curt
Curt stared at the fingers confused. He couldn't see straight, and the fingers were fuzzy. "4?"
Roland looked over his shoulder at Neil, who followed them in. He shook his head, and continued to look at Curt from behind
Someone held frozen peas to the back of Curt's head where he got hit, and he winced quickly but relaxed against the cold feeling. The girl held the back of his head gently, and rest the peas where it hurt and did her best to soothe him
"Okay, so what does he need?" Paula walked in with a kit and set it down on a counter
"Well I should clean the cut and put a bandaid on it and probably wrap his head" Roland examined Curt's head thoroughly to see what he needed
"Do your thing" She slid the kit over to him and Roland opened it and started to dig through it. He grabbed what he needed, and Paula made everyone leave the house while Roland tended to Curt
As he was putting a bandaid on the cut, Curt's eyes finally adjusted. He looked up and stared at Roland. He had those sharp features and soft eyes. Roland happened to glance down to look for another bandaid, but caught Curt's eyes staring at him
After a few moments of staring into each other's eyes, Roland moved his attention back to the kit. "Can you see now?"
Curt panicked and lied, to cover that he wasn't staring at Roland. "Barely. Everything's still a little fuzzy" Curt rubbed his head
"I'm really sorry about that, I should've been paying more attention" Roland sighed as he put the other bandaid on Curt's wound
"Hey don't worry about it. I'm used to it" Curt raised his eyebrows and shrugged. He moved away from Roland and headed for the door
"Uh, thanks for this" Curt pointed to the bandaids and nodded at Roland
Roland just stood there. He nodded back and Curt walked out the front door. Soon, people started coming back in. But Roland suddenly wasn't in the mood for a party or social interaction. The only thing he seemed to think about was Curt
It was upsetting to hear that Curt went through injuries and it was normal for him. Roland was going to change that. He didn't care what anyone would say or do. Nobody deserved that. He decided right then, that he would take care of anything or anyone bothering Curt
