"I don't know what you want me to tell you. Billy came over as soon as he found out I wasn't at school and he spent all day apologizing and begging for forgiveness. I told him I didn't think I could, and he asked for time to prove he's going to change, and I'm giving him that time" Curt summed up Billy's visit

Neil just sat across Curt at the dinner table, with a disgusted look. Roland didn't say anything either. He thought about the situation and then thought back to his and David's discussion earlier

Curt kept his face in his hand, with his elbow propped up on the table, so he could hold his head. Every time he moved, he kept his hand on his face, though. Neil noticed this

"Why do you keep trying to cover your face?"

"What do you mean? I'm just sitting here, its a comfortable position" Curt buried his face farther into his hand

Roland looked up from his thoughts, and then looked at Neil. Neil looked at Roland for a moment, then the two of them looked across at Curt

"Are you okay?" Neil asked, trying to break the ice

"Of course. I always am"

Roland whispered something to Neil, and Neil left the table abruptly and Curt heard the front door open and close but he didn't move to look

Roland slowly stood up, but continued to look at Curt. "I'd like to see your face"

"No you wouldn't" Curt's voice was quiet, almost a whisper

"Show me"

Curt shook his head, still covering more than half of his face. Roland walked over to Curt and towered above him. He gently grabbed Curt's wrist and moved his hand away from his face. But Curt moved his face away from Roland

Roland softly put his other hand under Curt's chin and moved Curt's face up to look at him. Curt had a new bruise on his right cheek and a busted lip

"Who did that? Billy?"

Curt shook his head and his eyes started to tear up slightly, but he forced himself not to cry. Roland pulled a chair up next to Curt and sat down. He carefully grabbed Curt's face again, and moved his head around so he could look for any more injuries, but found none

"Are you going to tell me who did that to your face?"

"No" Curt whispered this time

Roland couldn't stand seeing Curt like that. He wanted to know who put hands on him and why. He was going to find out, with or without Curt's help. Yes, he was going to find out. And he told himself he would take care of it, in any way possible
