Chapter 8

Lucian began to stir from his forced slumber to find himself again in creepy stillness. He felt off, just like before, but strangely different. He was entirely alone! He tried to feel his surroundings, but there was absolutely nothing to be found. This startled him because he's never felt so isolated  like this before. Trying to remain as calm as he could, he tried to speak through his mind to any of his friends who could hear him. ☆ Brodie? Alley? Thadd? Dale? Giles?
Stauss? Davina? Vaya?☆ Emptiness was his only response. He got ready to try again, but heard the whisper of his name before he could. "Lucien..."
He didn't recognize the voice or whether he just heard it in his mind, but tried to respond out loud. "Who's there? Where are you?" 'Where am I?' He wondered. The voice answered, "There is no need to worry for your allies. They are all well."
"Who are you?" He asked again. But no response was given. His mind began to wander off to the past, when his first memory of the supernatural world touched him.

Flashback: A quiet little boy watched from the sidelines as a group of children played in the field on the school grounds. Both boys and girls ran about trying not to get tagged by the one who was it. He sat, sulking because he couldn't bring himself to join, being as shy as he was. He continued to watch and saw a group of older boys walk up wanting to join. But the younger ones began to slow down to stop and stare at them as they approached. The boy who was it stopped and looked their way and said, " You can't play with us. You don't play fair." The bigger boy looked down at him and responded, "Like you have a choice. This is our playground and we make the rules." And with that, he shoved the smaller boy down to the ground, laughing. All the bigger kids joined in laughing then started kicking dirt into his face. Lucien didn't like it and ran towards the group of bullies to try and stop them. The leader of the bullies turned at Lucien and threw a handful of dirt into his face and laughed harder. "You think you're going to play hero, do ya?" he snickered. Right when the boy reached for Lucien's hair to yank him into a choke hold, did it begin. The moment the boy made contact with him, he started screaming in pain. The other bullies stopped to stare and saw their friend writhing in agony and fall to the ground. Lucien then turned to them and they felt the crackle in the air before they, too, began to writhe in pain. "You leave us alone!!" Shouted Lucien. "Get out of here, now!!" As his final word left his mouth, all the bullies flew against the side of the building, knocking them all unconscious. He ran up to the little boy who had been beaten down and asked if he was alright. "Get away from me, you freak!!!" was all he heard as the boy and other group of kids started screaming and running away from him. He felt strange and when he looked at his hand, he saw that it was lit with a pale blue flame. He didn't know what to do and he heard the teacher running towards him. He was so afraid and he ran away from them all in the direction of the woods. He kept running, never looking back, and his hands were still lit.
Flashback ends.

He could feel the power coursing through him at that moment and began to hear the sound of something cracking. Whatever bond that held him in place was beginning to tremble and he began to feel the atmosphere of his confines waver and a dingy, unlit room began to come into his view. Still alone, however, all his senses began to come to life once more.

'What's this?! There is a fluctuation with the binding spell!' The Enchantress rose quickly from the cushioned throne and hurried along the corridors to where she kept the young mortals at bay. 'It has been so long since I've felt this kind of surge of magic from anyone. Who can it be coming from?'

Vaya stood within the borders of a dark and dense forest, scanning the area with her mental awareness. 'It's way too quiet.' she thought. She sent out again to the others, trying in vain to pinpoint their location. Somehow she managed to escape whatever it was that was chasing her, but now found she couldn't communicate with her peers. In her mind's eye she could see miles away the camp that she left behind and there was no one there. 'Hmmm...' was all she thought then and she mentally tracked the direction everyone went. She thought of Lucian and shouted out with her mind his name, forcing an incredible amount of power behind it to see how much distance was between them. ☆Lucian!! Where are you?! Answer me!!!☆ Vaya's mental scream had an amazingly wide range that crossed miles over the vast lands and water bodies spanning the distance.

Lucian heard Vaya's voice in his head and turned in the direction it came from. ☆Vaya?! Can you hear me?! We are being held captive by magical binds and can't break free! I don't even know where we are!!☆

Vaya heard him and locked down on the direction his voice came from. Instantly,  she sprinted in that direction hoping to reach her comrades and help them out of their prison. ☆Keep talking, I'm heading your way!!☆ All the while not noticing the tiny bauble she carried with her, the marble with the smaller ones within it, beginning to move within itself.
