Chapter 9

In a dingy, darken cell Lucian struggled to break free from the invisible bonds that grounded him. He kept mentally screaming for Vaya in hope that she would be able to find him. Her voice kept wavering as if something was trying to block it, but the force she put behind it would not be shuttered out. All of a sudden, he wasn't alone in his cell.

The eerie, dense forest was still except for one small figure dashing through it. Thick, tall and ancient trees and shrubbery seemed to be come alive and shifted towards the tiny body, trying to prevent her from passing through. 'Like hell you're gonna stop me!!' Vaya shouted in her head. She had noticed for some time now that the only sounds were coming from her as she fought her way through the living green maze. No animals sounds, just the echos of her body flailing foward in the direction of her friends' mental voice. ☆Lucian!!☆ she called out again, but this time his voice seemed to be muffled. She could feel strain within his voice, like he was struggling. She pushed herself harder to clear the distance between them.

A giant crow circled the borders of the old forest. It cawed loudly and soon others began to appear. In mere moments, a blacked figure began to materialize at the forest edge. "Well done, my pretties." came the scratchy hiss of the shadow man. He glanced around and realized where he was. 'So, you are in on this. I should have known. He approached the treeline, but did not enter. He felt the crackle of ancient magic, a barrier that he himself could not cross. "Hmph! I will have my pawns back." he muttered under his breath. With that, he looked up to the sky where his minions glided and nodded his head. All at once they began to align themselves and dove straight into the forest, cracking open the shield with their momentum just long enough to pass thru. The ground began to quake as they did this, and a dozen or so miles in, Vaya's body began to quake with it as it steadily grew louder.
'Just great!' She muttered between pants as she ran faster.☆ Lucian!! I need to hear you again!! Answer me!!☆

Lucian face made contact with the frigid stone floor of his cell with a sickening thud, but rose quickly as if he nothing happened. "Ha! My turn." He stated with a smirk as he dusted himself off. The guards who stood in offense was shocked as their prisoner began to chuckle. They lined up in a defensive stance in front of their mistress when they found themselves being thrown at each other, losing all consciousness. The Enchantress' eyes widen at this display of magic and raised a barrier around her. But as she did this she felt a surge of power coming from behind, knocking her down to her knees. Bewildered, she attempted to throw a subduing hex on her prisoner, only to find that she could not move herself. 'What's going on? I can't move my body!' Her silent rant within began to still as another surge knocked her down even lower. Then she heard Lucian's voice exclaim, "Vaya!! You're here!!"

"Lucian! Are you alright?!" She made it his side in time for the witch to look up to see who held her in place. The witch shivered at the feeling of being helpless, and more so because of a mortal girl.
"You there. Release me at once!" Cried the woman who was brought down to her knees.
Vaya turned to her and spat out, "I don't take orders from you!! Where are the others?! If any of them have been harmed, I'll make you regret having ever crossed our path!!"

Zeelith stared at the girl before her in angry shock. She tried to move once more only to find that her lungs were constricting, forcing her breath out. She began to panic and thought to try talking her way out of this, but Vaya wasn't having it. She repeated, "Where are the others?! Know that I don't have any qualms with destroying you from the inside out and very slowly." Zeelith's eyes widen into saucers upon hearing this. 'This girl's powers, unbelievable!!' She stuttered out the response, "A..alright. I will ttttelll you, just loosen your grasp!!!" Vaya glance at her friend then squared her shoulders. "Alright. No tricks, now."
The witch found that she could breath a bit easier, but was still bound to the ground. When she spoke this time, it was fear that underlined her tone. She had never been forced into submission. "Your comrades are safe in individual cells along the hallway outside this door. I will show you where they are."
"You're damn right you will!!!" Growled Lucian as he was fully recovered from her magic binds. His powers coursed through his veins and swirled in his aura that shielded both he and Vaya. "And you're going to explain why you imprisoned us in the first place, too!"

Her body unwillingly rose from the floor and she hovered in place until Vaya started walking foward into the hall. ☆Are you sure you're okay?☆ She asked her friend in their heads. ☆Yeah. It's like your presence healed the atmosphere surrounding our prison. I can feel the others again, but I'm not getting any responses out of them.☆
As they walked down the hall, Vaya forced her way into her prisoner's mind, manipulating her powers and forcing all the doors to open. 'How?!' Was all the witch could think. Lucian ran ahead and carried each of the friends out into the vast dusty hall. All were present except for Davina and they didn't seem to be waking from their trance. "Where's D at? And why won't they wake up?" She asked Lucian. He shrugged and said, "Davina was at the camp, but then her body melded into the woman who is now your hostage." Vaya's eyes widen then tightened down to a vicious glare as she spun around to the witch. Before she could begin her interrogation, the castle began to quiver, and the sound of over sized birds began their malicious squawking to the thunderous beat of flapping wings.
"Honestly, not again with this crap!!" Vaya complained. Lucian looked about then brought the bodies of all their friends together, stretching their arms and making a circle with the three within it. ☆We can't get answers if we spend all our time fighting.☆ Lucian mused.
☆Yeah, about that..., the shadowman was on my tail when I first began searching for you all. No doubt this isn't going to be easy, especially if everyone else is out.☆
Lucian☆We need to get to a safe place before we can do anything else.☆
Vaya☆Right. This wretch is mine to deal with. Understand?☆
Lucian☆ Of coarse. I'll work on healing the others when we get somewhere else other than here. We also need to know what happened to Davina.
Vaya☆Agreed!☆

And with that, she placed another binding hex on the witch to ensure her entrapment, then lifted her hand above her head. In an instant, they all disappeared, leaving the castle to be ravaged by the blacken birds of prey.
