Chapter 11

"That damn minx!!! She did it again!!!" Shouted the blacken figure at the top of his lungs. He was so beyond furious he didn't know what to do other than yell and fling his body to the ground, kicking and throwing the biggest hissy fit ever. 'How can she just shut me out like that?! A pathetic human child, no less!! She must be in possession of some ancient trinket that allows her to block my magic!!! That must be it!!'

The shadowman continued ranting and thinking about how to go about with eliminating the girl child known as Vaya. 'No mortal should possess this much power!! How...?! Dammit!!!'

Back in the secure little cave, the small group of friends finished recalling and sharing all of the details that have befallen to them since their time at camp.
Each listened carefully without any interruption, and was fully alert to anything that was outside of the close-knit group. All were very much aware of the stranger's presence, although still knocked out cold, seemed to radiate dread and misfortune.
After some time of getting all the information out in the open, Vaya stood up and stretched out her stiff limbs and asked for everyone's attention. She noticed that Dale was looking at her with a mixture of worried sadness and amazement at the same time. She just chuckled then asked, "What? No twenty questions?" Trying to ease some of the tension that encompassed the tiny group. Dale's expression even out a bit and replied, "Well, last time you made fun of me and my questions. I guess I'm still in shock a bit because I've never really witness the magical things I've heard about any of you. I don't know how to use magic, but I can still fight alittle." His voice lowered into almost a whisper as if he was ashamed of being there among his more talented peers.
Thadd grinned at him and said, "I think you're handling this quite well considering that you really never had any exposure to magic before. Most people have never been close to anything we have been exposed to. The fact that you're here with us and still sane, well, that speaks volumes."
"That's very true, ya know? Most people would have went running home by now, but you haven't complained once about what we've gotten ourselves into. And I can feel that you have no desire to flee, even after the past several hours where there has been nothing more terrifying than becoming a prisoner to something so powerful." Brodie chuckled out, kindly smiling.
Dale found it hard not to grin at their words and began to feel better about the whole situation. Truth be told, Dale wanted adventure, but thought that the stories he heard were all made up, and he wasn't anywhere close to being prepared for the consequences like he thought he was. However, he did feel that now that he's had some experience with the supernatural, he can concentrate on the road ahead of him and contribute what he could and hope to not only become a better fighter, but learn some magic as well. But his good mood shifted as he spotted Vaya kneeling besides the unconscious stranger.
As he gazed on, the others began to turn their attention as well to their friend with the stranger. An onslaught of questions began to swirl throughout the minds of everyone there, and Vaya felt the the calm atmosphere shift to erratic confusion, fear and worry.
She softly sighed and walked back to the small group after checking her captive. Everyone had their eyes on her as she settled down next to the blazing fire.
"So..." Brodie began, then trailed off. He didn't know exactly how to inquire about what his cousin was planning, even though he knew she could already tell what everyone thinking.
Vaya stared into the fire and spoke just slightly louder than a whisper, "It's time for me to clue you all into my theory of what happened to Davina. As you know, she's skilled in the art of healing and medicine. However, you may not know, that power is something that she unwittingly acquired when she was younger, and quite by accident I might add." She paused briefly to take a deep. Then with a rush of words, explained, "She was too young to understand what exactly her powers were let alone what it meant when it first began. She told me that when she was little, she lived with her aunt and uncle. One night, while settling in for bed, she heard fighting going on down stairs, so she got out of bed to see what was happening. As she got to the middle of the staircase, there was a bright flash of light and the yelling had stopped instantly. She peeked over the banister and saw a strange woman standing over her guardians. The woman was chanting some spell and held a blade with both of her hands and they were raised above her head, ready to strike down. But Davina had already made it to the bottom floor and threw a vase straight at the woman's head. Her powers awoke fully at that point and the woman disappeared in a flash as the room began to shred apart. Everything that existed was destroyed all around her and she witnessed it all and couldn't move nor prevent what ensued..."
Vaya shook her head as her sentence trailed off.
"When it was all over, she stood alone on the hill where the house once stood. She said she felt the power of destruction get sucked back into her body as there was nothing left to break down.  Davina blamed herself for not being able to save them. They were still alive until her powers went rampant and she ended up finishing them off herself. There was a strange numbing of power that didn't quite feel familiar as what she had known her ability to be. But she didn't notice at the time and only when she recounted the tragedy did she come to the conclusion that maybe that woman was seeking her for her power."
Vaya fell silent and everyone began to contemplate what was said. That somehow, their friend  had the power to annihilate all before her. That she could have been twisted and corrupt, but instead turned out to be a very powerful healer.
