Oh my gawwwwd guys so this is the last chapter. I might use an epilogue at the end still, but this is basically the end of the story. I love you all so much and thanks for traveling this awesome journey with me. That is one last picture of Cobalt on the side.
"Jasper, are you sure you're all right?" Jo asked, her voice sounding curiously far away.
"I'm fine," Jasper answered hoarsely. What was wrong with Jasper? I tried to sit up, but my body wouldn't obey me.
"Just worry about Cobalt," he continued. Me? What was wrong with me?
I forced my eyes open, only to immediately squint into the light. The sun was setting; I could see it through the car window.
"Cobalt," Jo breathed. I felt her hands on my face and saw her beautiful eyes above me. My head was in her lap, and I was sprawled across the backseat. Jasper turned around in his chair to look at me, pain etching lines in his forehead and around his mouth.
"Where are we? Where are we going?" I croaked. I tried to shift my position, only to have agony radiate through my body. I hissed at the pain and struggled to lift my head. My abdomen was wrapped in stained white bandages, and I was wearing...rubber pants?
"Shhhh, hold still," Jo said, forcing my head back into her lap.
"What....the hell...did you do to me?" I panted. The pain was crippling.
"I didn't do anything, dickhead," she said, rolling her eyes. "Does Harting ring a bell?"
Oh. Yes, yes it did. Shit. I didn't really want to remember all of that.
"We're taking Jasper back to Arkansas," she explained. "He's really sick."
"I am not really sick," Jasper contradicted, raising a shaky hand. Oh yeah, that bastard had injected him with something.
"Where is Harting?" I asked.
"Dead." Ian spoke up from the driver's seat. "I ripped that son of a bitch's head off. He won't be bothering us ever again."
I relaxed back into Jo's lap. She was safe. I was exhausted, and Jo ran her fingers gently through my platinum hair.
"Go to sleep. We have a long drive ahead of us."
I took her advice and drifted off again.
When I woke, it was the middle of the night, and we were stopped at a gas station. Ian was standing outside at the pump, and Jasper was sound asleep in the front seat. Looking up, I saw that Jo was also asleep, her face pressed against the window. I started laughing, even though it hurt.
Her eyes fluttered open, and she stared sleepily down at me.
"You look ridiculous," I informed her.
"Thanks, smart ass." She yawned, pulling her hair away from her face with her fingers. "How are you feeling?"
"Good. Let's have sex." I really was feeling much better, and this much time spent with my face in her lap was making me horny.
She rolled her eyes. "No. You were dying six hours ago. Sex can wait until tomorrow."
"But I want it now."
"No."
"Bitch."
"Just keep it up, asshole, and you'll never get laid. What happened to your declarations of love? I liked those."
"I love you."
She smiled down at me and I pointed to my mouth. She shook her head in exasperation but still leaned down to kiss me. I immediately shoved my tongue into her mouth and she pulled away.
