I cover my mouth as I cough loudly, Jacob patting my back.

"Sorry kid, you're not going to school today."

"Oh come-" I cough, "on, Jake! I've been worse than this!" He shook his head.

"Nope, you're staying right here in bed."

"But Jaaaaaaaake!"

He rolled his eyes at my whining.

"That Greaser kid ain't going nowhere, and I don't think he'd like it if you got an even worse cold." I sighed,

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

"I am right. Now lay down, I'll get Ed to swipe you some soup from the store."

I leaned back and he left. I sighed, I really wanted to go to school. Not for learning, though, just to see the Curtis kid. I was disappointed, but I'd have to suck it up.

I swung my upper half over the edge of the bed, my hand searching for a small box that would hopefully soon turn bigger. I took out the brown cube, opening it carefully and checked that everything was still here.

Hairbrush, underwear, shirt, shorts, toothbrush, pictures. All here, no one touched it. I pick up a picture- my favorite- and gaze at it dreamily. My finger lightly touched reddish brown hair, trailing it down to the jaw. I admire the greenish gray eyes, misty and full of innocence.

This box was important to me, it had everything I could get my hands on. I worked hard for this box. This box, was my Ponyboy away from Ponyboy.

I put the picture in the box, placing the box back where it was. No one knew what was inside my special box, I dared them to open it. No one touches my box while I'm still alive. I don't want anything of theirs rubbing off on my sacred box. Pony was the one that showed me I was still human, because I felt love whenever I see him.

I layed back down on the mattress, staring up at the ceiling. My mind was temporarily blank, then it wandered to Pony. A million sick fantisies ran through my mind, I wanted to go to school so badly. I closed my eyes.

He was my obsession, and I love him to the bones.
