I stood infront of the Curtis house awkwardly, pulling at my fingers. I didn't know exactly what I was doing here, but I was as sure as hell I was getting into that house. How hard could it be? Just walk up to the door and knock. Wait, do guys knock? In my neighborhood not a single man knocks, but I don't know how greasers are and it might be rude.
I bit on my lip, but then if I knock I might sound girly.
I just wanted to shoot people in the face.
"Hey, pal." I turned and looked at the middle Curtis brother with wide eyes,
Crap. Crap crap crap crap crap.
My eyes looked away from him, this was not good. If he finds out who I am I'm as good as dead. Sodapop and I are not on good terms, at all. He's hated me since day one.
"Yeah?" His tough look was replaced with a happy one, "don't be so tense, man, I'm just playing with ya!" I laughed along with him, my heart thumping,
"Oh, I thought you wanted to kill me." I chuckle, "you had me scared for a bit there."
He gave me a look over and I found myself once again cussing everything out.
"You're new here huh?"
"Yeah, moved in from Vegas." He grinned, "a city boy.. Cool." He studied me once more,
"You aren't a Mexican, are ya?" My stomach fell, why would he ask that? Better yet, what should I say?!
"No."
He stared at me a good while and I started counting my last few seconds on earth, he grinned at me again,
"Good. We don't take kindly to that folk around here."
"Why not?" The words left my lips before I could think. He looked at me weirdly,
"They're good for nothing aliens." Why that mother-
"Well enough about them." He said, "you're a cool guy. Wanna hang out sometime?"
No. I hate you. You white son of a-
"Sure." I said. I don't know why I said it. It was either the thought of pony or me just wanting to get him alone and wring pretty boy's white neck.
"So you wanna come in?" I was startled by that, he continued at my look, "you were standing out here stareing at the house for the last half hour, I thought you'd wanna go in."
"Oh," I laughed, "sure, I guess."
He led to the door. I took a note that he didn't bother to knock and just went in.
He greeted the males while I just walked awkwardly behind him. They looked at me carefully,
"Hey guys, this is..." He trailed off, looking at me for a name. My heart stopped, crap. I haven't thought of that.
"Jesse." I said the first name that came to mind, rapidly searching for a last name, "James." I finished. Soda smiled,
"Jesse James." I received a bunch of hellos and heys and I was relieved I hadn't blown it.
They eyed my shaggy hair and soda stepped in again, "he's knew around here, he doesn't know the ropes yet." He continued to tell them about the story I told them as I looked around. Ponyboy eyed me weirdly, studying me, "hey, Jesse,"
They turned to him, "haven't I seen you before?" They looked at me. I broke out into a sweat. I laugh, "nah, man. I doubt it." He stood, walking to me,
"I know it's weird, but I have the strangest feeling.." He stood in front of me, "that I've seen you before." my cheeks turned just a bit pink as he stood dangerously close to me, his eyes staring into mine. I back up,
"Things like that happen sometimes, dude." He hnned,
"I guess."
If I could, I would of passed out from the immense relief I felt inside.
